New Skyline has a highly valuable point! I, as a Manhattanite pay my taxes. And as a real New Yorker, I believe my city and my neighbors, my city's residents are being cheated out of valuable time and resources! Enough beating a live bush and killing it dead over and over again! I have had enough with the dead end bureaucracy and the ragingly nerve splitting politics! MY New York deserves a Lower Manhattan fitting of its global image; a beacon of hope, freedom and wealth for the world to see!

And flooding this forum with the constant repetitive commentary about thoughts and perspective that all of us for the most part share isn't going to immediately change anything. So why continue, what are you looking to accomplish?

Here's the outlook...

-Steel and concrete installation continues above grade starting winter 2009/2010

-Tower crane was installed in early March 2009; a second tower crane to be installed in January 2010

Neither the PA's nor Silverstein's site seem to list a timetable report on Tower 4.

This own site lists the completion in 2012, so perhaps in mid or late 2011 we can see a top out.

Wait a minute....those pictures posted before....that's part of a base for a jumping tower crane. I think that's the jumping mechanism for the current tower crane, because technically it's up to it's neck in work right now(the building doesn't have walls yet to attach an exterior tower crane to).

And I believe they stopped concrete work going up above street level so that they could produce that lag like on 1WTC. steel seven stories up and then concrete rises.

Yes those are for an internal jumping crane like those on 1WTC. I suspect that the second crane will in fact be inside the building. They usually do not add more tower sections to a crane like this after it is already up.

I only went there because I'm into all the construction machinery and cranes but this forum has got me into the construction of the building.

With all of the construction going on at (and around) the site, you should be busy for quite a while. We're looking at a rebuilding that will change the face of New York.
This tower along is huge, minus the BofA, the tallest office tower to be built in the City since the original WTC.

I know a lot of people don't like the design, but I think it's appropriate for this tower.
I also think this building is key to the site, what connects the complex to the rest of the financial district...

http://www.pbase.com/nyguy/image/120435008/original.jpg

It will stand along with the Freedom tower as a very powerful presence over the memorial, even before the other towers rise...

IMO, the transportation hub looks way out of place here, a dead dinosaur skeleton. The design is more appropriate for a major museum in a more standalone location, not to be jammed in between beautiful buildings as a transportation hub.

It's been my experience that snow in Manhattan isn't nice, unless you're in a park. We're dealing with slushy corners already, you can't cross midblock, and don't get me started on the people who don't clear their sidewalk...but at least Tower 4 is above ground for Christmas!

Yes, even there the snow will be trampled upon, turning dirty and slushy. I love the winter (all seasons actually), and I love the snow, but unless it's going to melt in a day or so, it turns dirty and ugly. People forget that because we've had a few good years without too much snow recently. When the storms start coming, back to back again, and it's always messy on the sidewalks of Manhattan (with trash piled on top of the snow), you'll hear the complaints again. But enough of this snow talk.

SO there is a new crane but has there been any steel put up or delievered since its arrival? Another question how tall are the pieces that are up now?

What a funky steel structural layout on the right side of the pic from morrongiello. Is that because the PATH tracks lie directly underneath?

Not sure, but I was looking at it over the weekend trying to figure it out.

Even though only 2 of 4 towers are rising on the site, there's a sense of something "gargantuan" rising now that steel is clearly visible.
I'm reposting larger pics to try and capture that...

IMO, the transportation hub looks perfectly in place here, a dead dinosaur skeleton. The design is a perfect attraction, like some museum piece, and could probably stand alone anywhere, not only between beautiful buildings like these. Kids will be pulling on their moms, whining, "I wanna catch the train at the Steg!!!!"

Apparently the boom on the new crane has been removed?

Yes I think so. But why. I saw this on the webcam of Rebuild Ground Zero. The newer crane is also much taller than the other.

This morning they lifting the boom up, I asked one of the workers why they brought it down in the first place, his response was "It was bent".

Ha ha, it was bent. That's just amazing.

Well it's better that they fixed it before trying to pick up any loads. A bend could lead to a fracture, and then to another crane incident.

We haven't seen the full width of this tower yet, but it already seems immense...

For this one I’m using One Liberty Plaza as a model for some perspective of how massive this tower will actually be. The beauty is that OLP will be dwarfed both in height and size by Four WTC. Though seemingly bland to some of you, the real respect that this one will command will come from its sheer size (especially when standing next to it at ground level).

I've been doing that from the beginning, mainly because Liberty Plaza has towered over ground zero. Two more clips from Jan 1.

A few posts if 4WTC today. The base is comming along nicely and I can definitely visualize the lobby of the building. They're also laying down decking in both the core and on the beams.
