This is where i took the following pictures. I started at the right side of the map. I marked the core(right side) and the SZR(left side) where the big skyscrapers are. Many people believing that the SZR is the core of Dubai. But that is false. It`s right now the edge of the city.

No, i thought it`s my duty to fight against the wrong images many people have from Dubai.

I will post around 250 pics more, but that will take some time. ;)

I have never had a wrong idea about Dubai,I've no idea about Dubai,at the end, and I've never listened things about Dubai,maybe because I don't travel a Lot.But,if U travel and U listen there are bad ideas in the world about Dubai and I don't travel and I don't listen things about Dubai,wrong or right,nevermind,it seems to me that U want to say that people who travel,so that knows Dubai,has a wrong opinions about Dubai.I think that the people that doesn't Knows Dubai doesn't think in absolutely about Dubai!

I want to show the real Dubai. I will even post grit pics ;)

Here is a quote from such a person.
No depth, no purpose to it, no real urbanity stretching awyay. Not so much a city as a vanity project. Arguably the most hideous place on Earth. A building site building pointless statements compared to say NY or HK which are organic responses to place and time. It is a grotesquerie not even comparable to great skylines.

i agree. there's much more to dubai than the constructions. and just because it's growing fast doesn't mean that it doesn't have a culture of its own.

wow, the pictures are beautiful. Its interesting in the west we either know about Dubai or dont have a clue where it is at all. My impression of the city has always been of this sparkling new paradise in the sand, but the last shots show a more gritty portrail of the city. I think the contrast is interesting. In the same shot you see what really can only be discribed as a hovel and in the background the beautiful modern city center. Great job all around! Please post more if there are any.

I took later a taxi back to the Marina. A massiv thunderstorm was approaching and the temperature dropped from 38 to 21 degrees. There was heavy rain and strong winds. My shelter was the Grosvenour House.

Wow, just wow. I SO want to visit Dubai now:)
Those are some incredible pictures.

I love all those cranes- I could identify quite a few Potains and a few Liebherrs there.
Somebody needs to make a Dubai postcard- a closeup of a crane, and the caption "Official bird of Dubai"

I need to thank smussuw again for driving me at first to the WTC Tower and inviting me to the observation deck and later driving me to Business Bay.

We think it`s the Al Burj. The pics are from Nakheel posted by Imre. It`s better to ask him, because he flew with Nakheel. I can only guess where the pic was taken

I dont know what to say, Dubai has an insane amount of development. I can believe that they have the labour to do what they are doing in the amount of time they are doing it in. I wonder where all the people are coming from to occupy all that real estate.

It amazes me that so few average people know about Dubai. I was aware of all the development but even looking at the pictures it seams unreal, I must go but I think I will wait a decade.

Obviously, economics has no effect on the decisions made when proposing and constructing inordinate amounts of real estate and office buildings. I want to see Dubai hotels full with guests; I want to see condos lighting up the Dubai night sky. In reality, all I see is empty condos at night, vacant Mall parking lots, and empty homes on the Palms.

PS: Great pictures Tom - Dubai really is a magnificent city waiting for its future inhabitants.
