Saint Edward's University views from Saturday.

The weather was so nice on Saturday, that I just couldn't pass up the chance to go take some pictures and check out the view of the progress on the towers in downtown. I also scoped out the prospects for the views of The Domain from St. Ed's. By the way, as measured by GoogleEarth, The Domain area in North Central Austin is 11 miles from Saint Edward's University in South Central Austin. St. Edward's is 2 miles south of Town Lake, and 4 miles from the UT Tower.

Similar view with the Dobie Center hiding out behind Chase Bank Tower. Note the Westgate Tower to the left of the UT Tower, (brown building), I had mentioned this about 2 months ago, but does anyone know what they're doing to the building's roof? They removed part of the mechanical penthouse.

The Monarch starting to show up. Way off in the distance, 10 miles away in Northwest Austin, you can see The Arboretum midrises just above The Monarch. Part of that view will be gone once The Monarch is finished.

360 rising. Behind it in Northwest Austin you can see the Stonebridge Office Buildings along Mopac Expressway just to the left of the cell phone tower.

AMLI II construction. Note the midrise way off in the distance above it directly behind its tower crane. That's the Braker Pointe office building along Mopac which is 12 miles to the north of where this pic was taken. To the right of there you'll see two radio towers, (one of which is 327 feet tall, about the height of the tallest buildings at the Domain), and farther to the right, a white water tower. Those structures stand at UT's J.J. Pickle Campus along Mopac, immediately north of that is The Domain site. I used GoogleEarth and plotted a line from St. Edward's to The Domain site. 300 West Sixth, Block 21 Tower and the post office towers will get in the way. So there probably won't be a view of The Domain from St. Edward's University even if the skyline gets big at The Domain, there's going to be too much in downtown block the view. But there may be some views of The Domain from other spots around South Austin I think. This sucks that the The Domain skyline won't be visible from here.

Man i am LOVING those zoomed-in shots... helluva camera you've got there. Its really quite amazing how much of the city is visible from the great St Edwards hilltop... I can't think of a better place to watch our city and skyline change.

Definitely. It's one of the best views in the city. I'm sure the bluebonnets will still be there, and the buildings should be adding several more floors by then, too.
