Those of you who don’t know about CyberNations (http://cybernations.net) are missing out. It’s a hella-cool nation simulation game, in the ilk of Jennifer Government, but way, way better.

A few of us who already play – myself, Matt, Zephyr, Bronco and Brickell – have formed an alliance along with a handful of others we know in RL.

Everyone on SSP should
A) Start playing Cybernations, because it’s cool; and
B) Join our alliance, because the more members in it the stronger it is

You won’t be sorry.

My nation is at http://cybernations.net/nation_drill_display.asp?Nation_ID=70893 and our alliance headquarters is at http://madalliance.blogspot.com/.

I started a nation and got to around 1000 people then didn't play much and got attacked.

I liked the old Nation States game a lot more. This one seems kind of simple and has a lot of flaws and aspects that just aren't fun, like random preferred religion and government types.

Another thing Nation States used to do was reset everything once every few months, so everybody can start off on a level playing field.

Aha! I wondered who this Sheik Tom person was. You can ignore the question at the end of my email.

And why would you need to? To protect yourself from jackasses who attack random nations! Happens all the time. Happened to Weisslandia, who is in our alliance, a few weeks ago. Had he been all alone, he'd have gotten his rear handed to him, but because he had protection from us, we destroyed his attacker.

JJC80: To join the alliance follow these instructions (http://madalliance.blogspot.com/2007/02/recruitment-office.html).

Dear Leader: Come on... All the cool kids are doing it.

Re: nukes: Money isn't the problem. I have enough money. The problem is you're not eligible to buy a nuke until you're in the top 5% of all nations. None of us have been playing long enough to be there yet. So: Don't piss off anyone with nukes!

I'm all about games like this, but something seems to be missing. Maybe i'm missing something, but what exactly do you DO in this game? Does it really only go as far as logging on for two minutes every day to buy more stuff with your tax money? Is there any other way to make money or do you have to wait until another 24 hours goes by in order to actually play the game again? I'm a little confused.

Cirrus

Your interactions with other countries are what makes it fun.

And figuring out all the hidden ways to succeed and maximize your income, such as tech trading.

Further, your options for purchases and needs widen as your nations grows.

Don't get me wrong, I think it is fun. I'm just trying to figure out how to make that fun last me longer than two minutes every 24 hours. lol Like Bronco, i'm still in this pathetic pattern of collecting tax money, spending, then not knowing what else to do until tax collection time rolls around again.

Also, slightly unrelated, do you have any idea how to access that global map that is displayed on the cybernations home page that displays ALL of the nations on the map as opposed to just yours?

I'll tell you what you can do to spend time in the game: Find new members for MAD! The big alliances have hundreds of members each. Some even number in the thousands. We need more people. Go out and find them. :)

As for tech trading, the basic concept is simple: Tech (like infra and land) costs more the more of it you have, so it's much cheaper for a young nation to buy (say) 10 units than it is for an old one to buy 10 units. So young nations buy tech and then sell it to old nations for more than the young nation paid, but less than the old nation would have to pay for that same amount. Both countries profit.

The game is extremely deep. There are a lot of little quirks like that you can exploit. There is much more to it than buying your 10 units of infra every day and then logging out.

If you want to know the basics for how to do well, read this (http://madalliance.blogspot.com/2007/02/mad-academy.html).

Cirrus
Feb 27, 2007, 4:54 PM
Keep in mind that you need a middle man for all tech trades.

The game doesn't allow more than one aid transaction directly between any two nations within a 10 day period, so unless one of you wants to wait 10 days for your half of the deal, you need a middle man. It works like so:

Nation A sends tech to Nation B -> Nation B sends cash payment to Nation C -> Nation C forwards cash payment to Nation A after keeping a pre-determined cut. (or vice-versa).

The Cabinet is aware of the attack on BnaBreaker and is preparing to take punitive actions against Chachaland.

BnaBreaker: Check your cybernations in-game email and respond to me.

In the event of a declaration of war, we will need alliance members with nation strengths in the low 1,000s to defend their ally. It is only possible to declare war on nations between 50%-200% your strength and the attacker's strength is 706, which means that no one stronger than 1,412 can declare war on him... BroncoCSU05, Brickell, and Matty would be the strongest nations available.

War has not yet been declared, so no one should launch any counter attacks yet. Wait for the word.

Declaration of War

At 4:17 pm Eastern Standard Time the MAD Cabinet unanimously declared war on the unaffiliated nation of Chachaland for its unprovoked attack on El Kumbiana.

All attempts at a diplomatic solution have been exhausted. Chachaland was ordered to stand down its forces and declare peaceful intentions, and has responded with impertinence.

Counter attacks by El Kumbiana and assaults by allied nations within range are hereby authorized. Stripperstan is the most powerful allied country in range and will lead the attack. The Cabinet also asks the forces of Tortuga to stand ready and engage as possible.

In the words of Minister of Defense Eviliza of Lizatonia: Smash him!

It's already been said, but this guy made an unrealistic recovery and has now almost completely destroyed my army and sent me into anarchy. Two cruise missle attacks, two bomb attacks, and two invasions. I now have very little money and 20 soldiers.

WHAT DO WE DO?

I want to reiterate that I did absolutely nothing to bring this on...if it isn't a random attack on me, why not a random attack on everyone in the alliance?

BroncoCSU05
Mar 1, 2007, 6:19 PM
i responded back with 2 ground attacks, two cruise missles and everything. i destroyed 300 soldiers and 16 infrastructure and 10 of his tanks...plus sustained heavy losses and an additional 200 solders and 5 tanks from some of his invasions....so i'm holding my own, but it's costing me dearly in my solder count. my tech is seriously hurting my ability to fight this guy, which is why we need some lower middle men in the alliance STAT to help us buy tech and be more effective against this fvcker.

now that he's super strong, all nations in MAD are able to join this war and help the cause. i'm floating about 30k right now and i've lost a good 60 infra and 800 soldiers in the past day or so
