lofty,

Thanks for the great pics! You show that Phoenix has some of that fine-grain development in place and happening. I love the palm shadows painted on the alley wall. I like to come upon creative, unassuming art pieces like that when out exploring. The professional building hotel/restaurant/nightclub project is an exciting one. That will add some class and nightlife to the area near 44 Monroe. Speaking of that; 44 Monroe is already looking tall and has another 20 or so floors still to go...awesome! I'm actually in Phoenix for a few days and planned on taking a photo trip tomorrow. I'll check on the Summit, the Sheraton and want to make it over to Tempe. The other thing I want to do is document the area that encompasses the Jackson Street Entertainment District. All that may be a bit ambitous for one day, but I'll give it the ole college try. Thanks again

Awesome photo thread. Were these taken today? Looks like there was a decent amount of people around for a Saturday.

Midtown doesn't get quite the credit it should. You've made it shine well. :)

One of the best Downtown & Midtown pictures I have seen Joel. I love the Chase Tower shots, makes it look very tall. Doesn't the YMCA look spiffy? I love working out at that gym. In anycase, awesome pictures...Phoenix does have a lot going on, just gotta look in the right spots. I can't wait for light rail! Gotta stay optimistic!

Wow, thanks for some of the best pics I've seen of downtown/midtown. I will have to take a drive through when I'm back in town in April.

Nice angle. Different from the usual shots. BTW, when the hell did that statue go up? Don't remember seeing it before.

Great pictures Joel. As much as I rag on Phoenix, there are some things here to savor. BTW, that YMCA now has a coffee shop in the lobby that's really pleasant - and no membership required.

That artwork in the island at Central & Roosevelt is by local artist Robert Miley (he also did that sculpture/bench at 3rd Ave & Holly in Willo). It was cast out of melted down handguns. Since the light-rail station will be directly north of it, folks might get to check it out more closely when the project's done.

I just moved in there over the weekend. Its been great so far, though I don't have the internet yet (using it at a friends house now). As soon as I get online, Ill post some pictures of my view, my apartment faces north and I can see Portland Place, the Viad Building, the library, the tip of Squaw Peak and the "head" of Camelback. Its a great view, but when spring comes, it will be gone because of a large tree outside my window- ah well.

HooverDam, that's great! I love the Portland residential strip. Your development and Portland Place really enhance the area. The strip park down Portland and the Deck Park make it a nice, respit of green space in the growing urban landscape. Congrats

The monument at Roosevelt/Central has been there at least two years because worked at Roosevelt/4th Ave. in 2005 and drove past it every day. Didn't realize that it was new at the time.

Great pics, loftlovr!

Its outside of a hotel, that hotel has stars of various "Golden Age" celebrities that stayed there.
