It is a panorama stitched from 8 images together, that is what gives it the super wide angle. And, yes, it is from the Esplanade. Thx for the comments.

thats the best view of downtown by far. coming westbound over the freemont bridge...the view from the river is nice but makes portland look deceivingly smaller then it is...excellent picture though. the clarity of the buildings in the river reflection is great.

I was actually crazy enough to pull over one morning on the Fremont to try and fire off a quick shot, it does make downtown seem so far away, though.

The "Rose City" rocks!
I could totally see myself living there in a few years down the road.

Nice pics! Pretty darned awesome...

I have found a great place to view downtown & SOWA is on the Eastbank right between the Opera house & OMSI, early at night when it first gets dark outside... there is a time, which changes with the seasons, when the wind does to zero and the water is crystal-clear reflective. You can see the entire city reflected on it, including the little cars as they zoom over the Marquam & Ross Island Bridges.

I don't have a good enough camera (nor a tripod) to take pics at night, but trust me - it is the second most beautiful view of Portland - after the views from Pill Hill & Vista at night. Someone needs to get out there and shoot the bridges on a windless night!!!

that other pic is cool too. the reason i like the view looking south is because you get the whole view of the pearl and the skyscrapers on the south end of downtown look even taller because of the gain in elevation going south through downtown. you pulled over on the bridge?!! :O
