it's not a mistake.

just because Gatineau and Ottawa both decided to extend their city limits out beyond the true reaches of their own suburbs, doesn't meant that those suburbs are not suburbs anymore. Aylmer and Gloucester and Orleans and Nepean and Gatineau (pre-merger) and Chelsea and Cantley and Stittsville and Masson-Angers (etc.) are all definitely suburbs. Even parts of Hull and parts of Ottawa-proper (pre-merger) are suburban. Buckingham, if it was even a suburb of Ottawa/Hull in the first place, certainly is no less a suburb today, just because provincial bureaucrats tinkered with municipal boundaries. When (if) these ex-municipalities ever get truly encompassed into the urban core of the national capital region, then we will be able to consider they are no longer suburban. until that time, all else is just a name game, and connect-the-dots

if it was true that Aylmer, Kanata, Orleans and Buckingham are not suburbs, then Ottawa/Hull would be the first city in modern history (at least in North America) to be completely urban with no suburbs whatsoever... because there is nothing but farmland, forest and maybe a few agricultural hamlets outside of Ottawa/Gatineau's new offficial city boundaries.

I agree. Technically, if you live in Buckingham, you can mail a letter or write your address as 'Gatineau', but I wonder how many people there really do it?

When I moved to Hull, I asked the landlady how we were supposed to write our new address.. she said "I write it like so - Gatineau (secteur Hull), Quebec". she had a little bit of angst in her voice when she told me that. I just write it as Gatineau.. I get all my bills or other mail delivered that way, even though I put "Hull" in my location bar :D.

Buckingham does not have that 'suburb' feel to it, more of a small town feel. With the extension of the 50 now open on the east side however, I'll suspect they'll be ripping up land for drive-thru timmy's and more of the same cookie-cutter vinyl-sided/brick front homes you see in the city.

a side note - Denholm (further north) is now going to be included as part of Ottawa's CMA in the 2006 census count!

pas besoin e nous écrire un livre Mtl-514.en disant que c'était juste un peu plus dans le bois je voulais dire la même chose.je ne considère pas Buckingham et Masson-Angers comme étant Gatineau même si ces ex-municipalités font vraiment partis de la ville.moi,j'aurais fait une nouvelle ville de Buckingham avec ces deux secteurs.quitte à perdre 20 000 habitants.
