i'll give you my favorite, and it's probably kinda unusual.

the Tribune Tower in Chicago:

http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/z0302a1700/tribune.jpg

they don't build 'em like this anymore... wonderful gothic architecture in a skyscraper, with terrific detailing. check out the top:

http://chicagouncommon.com/photography/tribunetower.jpg

for me, it would be a dream to see a structure like this in downtown boise. it would rekindle my faith that modern architecture isn't all about cost-cutting, but is willing to tip a cap to the great structures and styles of the past.

oh, and if you ever get to Chicago, walk around the base of the Tribune Tower and check out the walls at the base, which include inserts from other famous structures and monuments from around the world. to quote emporis:

The walls hold a collection of stones from famous monuments and sites around the world (and the moon), including the Arc de Triomphe, Parthenon, Berlin Wall, Alamo, Great Wall of China, Forbidden City, White House, Taj Mahal, Great Pyramid of Cheops, Petrified Forest, Badlands, St. Peter's, Notre-Dame, Hagia Sophia, Antarctica, Omaha Beach, and Mammoth Cave.

i love this building. truely.

Boisebro, I love the Tribune Tower too--that's one of my all-time favorites.

As for my all-time favorite, though, I've gotta go with the Chrysler Building. It's just perfect in every detail. Beautiful building. Makes me wish I was Spider-Man so I could get THAT close to it.

i'm feelin' a lot of love in this thread for the trib tower... :)

interesting stat: the tribune tower is 464 feet tall. the boise place, if ever built, will be only 4 feet shorter.

wouldn't it be groovy to have both in boise?

jard
Jan 27, 2007, 6:07 AM
Okay, you've talked me into it. I'll trade boise place for the trib tower.

No, this thread belongs in the great thread hell underground. Why does Skyscraperpage allow such posts to exist--does the site not want to look at least a bit professional?

Moscow University is an amazing structure... but that exaggerated spire is totally cornball and detracts from the architecture of the structure... though perhaps I shouldn't allow myself to be distracted by it

well it is skyscraperpage.com what do you expect?

This may be a very old question but I have still enjoyed looking at this thread.

My favorites are pretty cliche but they're my favorite:

Chysler Building
Empire State Building
John Hancock (Chicago)

A favorite of mine that isnt as famous:

The American Standard Building, New York. It sits on Bryant park in Manhattan.
