Those are some awesome finds Delirium, thanks. I like that black and white one of the library in the fall. The rest are great too of course.

^Downtown should look real good from that angle once the Shangri-La and 1153 W Georgia are up. I'm sure the view would be good for Woodwards, Capitol, and YMCA Tower as well.

oh my gosh, some of these pictures are so beautiful that it hurts...You Canada have such beautiful places. I especially love how the mountains are so closed to the ocean, are they actually so close or it's a kind of a mirage?

they be taht close, and closer. if you head west its pretty much a 3000-5000 foot vertical drop where mountains meet ocean.

Vancouver artist Eric Burke has just released a collection of prints that feature a whole new perspective on the city of Vancouver.

(Vancouver, BC. Feb 6, 2007): Vancouver artist Eric Burke has just released a collection of prints that feature a whole new perspective on the city of Vancouver.
Burke, who has lived and worked in the city his whole life, created the collection to present “a view of Vancouver that is familiar to most, but with a unique twist.” Using a combination of photographic images, digital editing and design, Burke puts a spin on some of the more recognizable sights in the city. “I try to use styles and trends that are really in vogue, part of pop culture; to capture the city’s style at the moment,” says Burke.

Vancouver is both the subject and the inspiration of the collection, which he has been working on for three years. “It’s the lifestyle of Vancouver, the way we are uniquely West Coast,” says Burke of his muse, adding that the city’s most distinctive characteristic is “the surrounding environment of mountains and ocean.”

Cityscapes, landscapes and architecture comprise the works, which include renderings of the Marine Building, the Seawall, Queen Elizabeth Park, the Waterfront, Chinatown and many other famous Vancouver locales. The entire collection is available as open edition prints, in various sizes on both paper and canvas, and can be viewed at vancouver.ericburke.ca. Additionally, Burke has made lower resolution downloads of the collection available for free (with attribution to the artist under a Creative Commons license) at flickr.com/photos/ericburkevancouver, and blogs about life in Vancouver at vancouver.ericburke.ca/blog.

Cool. Are all the palm trees still out? Do they take the banana plant in during winter? Nice crane action. I hope to get up to Vancouver some time soon and take pictures.

Ya all the palms are still right where they ought to be(they can handle to -15c). There was no problems with the wind storms either that I know of.

The banana trees stay as they're quite large. They can handle temps to -20c apparently but the leaves die of around -2. The trunks are protected over winter then unwrapped in spring. The leaves grow back really fast and at a rate of 2 ft per week. I've seen quite a few dead looking ones in my neighbourhood but it's all part of the plant's seasonal natural process.

I really can't wait too. My friend got a new boat so we are dying to test it out.

Ya that building has always reminded me of the one on the Hawaii Five-O intro when Jack Lord spins around at the beginning. It probably looks quite different but it reminds me of it somehow anyway.

There seems to be quite a few older apartment buildings in Vancouver that you would similarly see in Honolulu.

I think I know where that is. The street you're looking down is actually the alley just north of Georgia. The cross street there is Bute. That small, square commercial building is just across the street from the Melville (the Melville would be to the left side of the pick behind that condo). The small sliver of red building is the Banff Apartments building on the corner of Georgia and Bute.

What a success Harbour Green Park is eh? It's probably one of my favorite places to chill in the summer. You can sit on a bench under trees overlooking the harbour/stanleypark/mountains/floatplanes/ships. As well there always seems to be a steady flow of tourists walking by, as well as plenty of hot yoga pant wearing girls.

Is that a fountain to the right of the photo? That's got to be at least 100 ft high. I don't remember seeing that before...? Looks like the fountains in the lake in Geneva or Zurich.

the water spout is some kind of fire hydrant thing. they have it go off every now and then in the summer. not sure what its exact use is though..
