Very cool. The pictures posted here remind me of the tower with the beacon in Logopolis (city in an old Dr. Who series).

A brief knowledge on what's on the inside!

Excellent post, most interesting pics here in weeks. We need more interior shots, and more of the stonework inside the base and also the base glass now that they have turned most of the fins out.

Does anyone know what is the point of the wires sticking out the bottom of the stairwell? Are they going to attach tile later?

Also, that Allen AR-21 machine, are those common on construction sites now? I've never seen one before. It's a clever idea, a mini-garbage truck for interior spaces to collect construction waste.

I could not agree more! NYGUY thank you SO much for posting those inside photos!!! I really want to see more of the inside, A LOT more!!!

I'm wondering where the guy wires are at? Didn't alan88 say they were due by the end of the month.

And I must say that the antenna has grown on me. It isn't ideal by any means, but as the temporary platforms come off, it is looking a bit better.

That was the Plan, but it is looking more like after July 4th holiday to install the guys, weather dependent, forecast for monday & tuesday is thunderstorms,

I think I might've asked this before, but I would really like somebody to make a render of 1 WTC with the current antenna design and the communication ring filled with the broadcast dishes. I'm curious to see how the contrast will look when it's all up there.

Thanks in advance!

P.S. I would also like to see that possible render of 1 WTC with an entire completed WTC complex just to get a glimpse of the future. I hope I'm not asking for too much!

I was asking if somebody could make a render of the current 1 WTC design but have the comm ring filled with the dishes (because all of the recent 1 WTC show an empty comm ring and I wanna see how the contrast will look) and I know there are many renderings of the entire complex completed but they're all with the original spire design.

I think the beacon on top is such a smart idea. Seeing it in action last week was really neat. Imagine being 20+ miles away, you'll still be able to see that flash of light. It kinda turns the building into a modern 21st century light house. I like it.

Imagine what it would have looked like with a white radome lit up with the LED floods though... Sigh...

Not at all. If it's just "skin", it would look the same, with just another layer over it. What you call the "skin" was actually the designed element of the mast, not the hidden innerworkings. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see the difference. But even if that were the case, it still wouldn't be the same. You don't even have to take my word for it...

The omission of the shell presented design issues for Barbizon. Lighting a steel skelton is not the same as lighting white fiberglass.

I'm certain the lighting will look nice, but it will be in the sense that anything can look nice with lighting - it's actually the lighting that will look nice. Or think of it this way, would you rather highlight a piece of architecture, or the frame beneath?

1 WTC Project Manager Talks Milestones

http://s3.amazonaws.com/cmi-niche/assets/pictures/25823/content_nicole-dosso.jpg?1372441795

by stephanie murg

On the morning of September 11, 2001, architect Nicole Dosso was at the sleek Wall Street offices of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, where she had worked since 1998.
“To this day, all of the details come back, almost like in slow motion,” she says, recalling how when she returned to the SOM offices a week later, everything
was covered in dust, including her uneaten breakfast. She couldn’t have imagined then, amid the ashes and ruin, that one day she’d be responsible for keeping the
construction of One World Trade Center (the “Freedom Tower”), the main building of the new WTC complex and perhaps the most discussed and scrutinized building in America, on course.

Raised in Westchester and educated at Syracuse University, 38-year-old Dosso joined the 1 WTC project in late 2006, after seeing work on 7 World Trade Center
through to that building’s opening day. “It’s been exciting to watch Tower One start to reshape the Manhattan skyline,” says Dosso of the 1,776-foot-tall skyscraper
that will be America’s tallest. “Once the building got above a certain elevation, it gave the city a marker and a point of focus. It is a landmark again.”

Dosso’s task is a huge one—taking David Childs’s design from concept to reality. To do this, she leads a team of more than 30 architects, who keep some 1,100 workers
on task as well as oversee contractors and work closely with fabricators tapped to produce boundary-pushing innovations (like super strong concrete and the
fastest set of elevators in North America).

The hardest part of coordinating the massive construction effort? “Just keeping up,” says Dosso, who points to the web of subterranean concourses and corridors
that required complex feats of both construction and communication. “Until we got to the ground level, if we had a dozen consultants, the many parties involved each
had another dozen consultants,” she says. “Dealing with all of those different personalities and extracting the information needed to get the job done is probably the most
challenging part of the project.”

With the cladding completed in May and the spire recently installed at the top, work continues apace inside the building. The raw space on the 100th, 101st, and 102nd floors
is now being transformed into “One World Observatory,” where visitors will be able to take in spectacular city views in early 2015. Dosso eagerly awaits another milestone
—temporary certificate of occupancy, expected as early as August, after which certain floors can be handed over to tenants and their contractors for design and completion.

With the bulk of her work on 1 WTC slated to end within the next year, Dosso is almost ready for her next challenge. “I used to say, How could it ever get any bigger or any better?
But you’d be surprised,” she says with a smile. “In New York, just when you think you’ve seen it all, something new and great will come along.”

Presumably they will have everything ready for a lighting Thursday evening (4th of July). I would expect no less from this building, on that day.

Well, to me it looks like an old sci-fi flash-gordon cheap ray gun. I'm not liking it a lot... :(

I imagine it will look better once they get rid of the red/white/blue lighting scheme of the building itself. The question is the rotating beacon, how it plays with the lighting.

Wait, there's only one horizontal beam of light projected from the beacon? I thought there were two...

That was photoshopped - the original picture does not have the antenna lighted or the beacon on. It is what you call "an artist illustration" of what it might look like.

It's the color scheme I'm thinking about. I hope it's coordinated enough that the beacon and mast don't compete with each other.

It would be nice if they could do a coordinated laser show with the SI Wheel or even the Empire State (which will have it's own light show tomorrow night).
I remember the original towers had the laser show for a while.

12-Foot-Tall Lego One World Trade Center Lives Up to Its Inspiration

Mario Aguilar

The Lego Discovery Center in Westchester County, New York, has unveiled a new masterpiece: a 110-pound, 4,873 brick, 12-foot-tall model of One World Trade Center. It's spectacular.

What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than with an absolutely stunning replica of the building that represents the indomitable American spirit? In the image (below), you see
Steve Plate, Director of World Trade Center Construction planning a tiny Lego flag on top of the tower—good practice for when the 1776-foot WTC 1 is finally completed later this year.

Well, Traynor did leave the copyrights and the links back to Michael flicker page - I went there and had a look at many beautiful pics from him. I think he just took a beautiful pic to play around with, testing what the spire and beacon would look like without fully realizing that the original photographer would object - which I totally understand.

Forgive my aggressive question, especially for some of you who seem to be quite emotional, but:

As we know that the antenna of North Tower was thicker, and more massive than the current mast, and it WAS NEVER considered as a part of the structure of the tower; HOW can we imagine a second that the slim and skeletal mast of 1WTC will be considered as an entire part of the tower ??

No way at all...

Oh I know what some of you may reply: "the antenna of North tower was added years later, whereas the current mast has foundations in the concrete core"...

Yes but that doesn't prevent the mast from being just an assembly of skeletal pieces of iron...

So... hard to refer to a "spire"...

The designation will come from the CTBUH.
In my opinion...the fact that the "spire" is a guyed mast that is integral to the building will see it fit their criteria.

According to the CTBUH web site:

Height is measured from the level of the lowest, significant, open-air, pedestrian entrance to the architectural top of the building, including spires, but not including antennae, signage, flag poles or other functional-technical equipment. This measurement is the most widely utilized and is employed to define the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat rankings of the "World's Tallest Buildings."

The footnote relating to antennae, signage, etc reads thusly:
Functional-technical equipment: this is intended to recognize that functional-technical equipment is subject to removal/addition/change as per prevalent technologies, as is often seen in tall buildings (e.g., antennae, signage, wind turbines, etc. are periodically added, shortened, lengthened, removed and/or replaced).

Therefore...in my opinion...the spire will be recognized as a structural element and counted towards the architectural height.

One segment of red, one segment of white, and one segment of blue would do the trick and would look so much more refined and elegant.

The old antenna had a steel support mast like this under it's outer white and grey dome. The steel structure here has a few tons on the old one but has no outer dome to look bigger. As for the last post. The spire will be lit white most of the time. They will light it different colors for special days or events.

That was just speculation on my part as to possible reasons why they may have scrubbed the lighting for tonight. Otie says it's because of late submission of papers for approval that cost them the chance to do it tonight. I trust his sources over anyone else on either of these forums, so I'm sure that's the reason why it didn't happen tonight.

Whatever the case may be, the fourth of July (Independence Day) comes every year, on the same date. It caught no one by surprise. It was just a dumb idea not to have it lit for the fourth
(especially considering the current lighting scheme of the entire building). It seems every decision they can make regarding this antenna is an unbelievably incompetent one, but this one is
right up there. If it can't be lit for today of all days, why bother.

The construction workers should be commended for simply placing all that colored plastic wrap on the work lights...at least they gave some thought as to what this building means to some people.

Let me try this one more time and hopefully I can get an answer :P
Does ANYONE know when the guy wires for the spire will be installed?

Not exactly sure, but I'd think that they have to wait until the crane is removed first???

Looks as if they have to finish the work on the telecom rings before the cranes are taken down.

As this buildings outer construction comes to a close, I would like to thank the construction crews who built it, and are so extremely ignored here on this page.

I don't think the construction crews are "ignored" on this page. Every photo posted is a testament to their work. These buildings don't build themselves.

Anyway, I'm still looking for my Freedom tee, the one that I saw. Checking the tourist shops, I notice that the models are either too tall or too thin, however you look at it.
But I did run into the 3D puzzle, a companion for my Sears Tower piece. It's not a hundred percent, but close enough that we know what it is...

What's happening on the ring?
They covered it with a blue protection...

I thought that the ring was finished, however it seems that there's still some work on it...

Didn't realize that the base was almost done on the west side. Looking good!
