These columns look smaller than the usual, but since this is 102, the next jump goes to 104 right?
We're not on mechanical floors right?
Considering Otie said the roof is 1,334.

Previous 1,244
After 1,271

So Next is 1,271
then 1,334?

There is going to be 2 more jumps. Each jump would be about 20 feet. Then a jump for the parapet. Followed by the beacon, and the installing of the mast.

104 floor is 1,313 feet but in my opinion that is a 42 foot jump and that seems to high for me considering they never did a jump that high before.

Yes.

1,313? Oh cool. Thanks for the info. I agree the last jump was 27 feet. But then again, i can't see them doing two 20plus feet jumps

I don't get why some people are saying that 1WTC doesn't look as tall as the twins. These people say that 1WTC appears "fatter" than the twins. I don't think this is true. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 1WTC at its widest point at the base is the same dimensions as the twins were, or even a bit smaller. Sure, it tapers, unlike the twins, but visually it won't look truly super tall until all of the glass is on, giving it a uniform streamlined look, and of course it still has a few floors left before it tops out. And not even counting the spire, either. So these people should reserve judgment. 1WTC will look plenty tall when completed. Just wait. Anyone who sees the renderings can tell it will be a true monster!

From certain Angles it looks taller than the twins.Others it doesn't.
The only reason why the twins appear taller is because it doesn't taper back.
Unlike the twins, they seem never ending.
But I think it's very tall and it's not eve done yet!

it's too long...

now the average speed of construction is one floor in two weeks.. before, it was faster..

I don't understand why it is so long to finish the few floors missing.. usually, the ending of the tower is the easiest point to build, no ? moreover, the floors have a surface 50 % smaller than the first floors, because of the shape of the tower..

so why is it so long ?? :(

Otie and others who know more about the project are saying that the parapet will be 1,368 ft, but the real roof height will be around 1,330 ft. I don't really know why, but that's the way the PA wanted it.

Anyone think that the entire building (not including the spire) will be done before August?

Right now we are looking like 1 wtc will be top out by either late June or early July and the spire will take around six months to erect, so by my estimates 1wtc should top out with out no weather delay by late June or early July and 1 wtc should be completed by december 2012 or January 2013

You just can't show all the mechanical equipment to the world, the parapet of this tower serves as a visual hider of everything up there (catwalks, cooling towers, HVAC equipment, maintainance stuff, a permanent crane and other related stuff), it also serves as a protection against wind and other environmental elements. Its height is limited by the Window Washing Track.
Top of roof slab: 1334'-8"*
Top of parapet: 1368'-0"

*The roof slab is not completely flat, but slightly sloped to allow rain water access the water storage tanks located throughout the tower and down to the sub-grade infrastructure.

Also keeping in mind that without the parapet, the roof height would still be higher than the roof slab height.

I understand, but it would have been great. if the roof slab was really 1,368 ft and the parapet the same height above it as it was initially. However, I now understand the purpose of the parapet. Wouldn't want that equipment to be expose to the elements.c:notacrook:

i'm sorry, i know it is not exactly the topic where i should talk about it... but i was wondering something, as i see the pictures of WTC:

the memorial is currently like this:
http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/i/tim/2011/09/10/rmitchell911memorial_480x360.png

you notice that there is nearly no grass at all on the place :sly:

Is it because memorial is incomplete ? or is it natural ?

as i see former concept pictures, it seems that there must have been more grass on the place...

StrongIsland

You know that's an old picture right? Anyway the amount of grass on the plaza now is basically it, the remaining area of the plaza waiting for fit out will just be pavers and trees.

The roof height would be the 1,401'5" figure if I am not mistaken. One could step out on the top of the ring if they pulled some strings and get quite a view. I will always say the roof on this one will be at 1,373 feet not 1339 feet since that is the highest technical enclosed point since it is still surrounded by the parapet. It is all up to that point a permanent part of the structure and serving a mechanical purpose for the structure as well which only continues to rise...

I'd be very surprised to see all those omni antennas the diagram has. It would greatly simplify the rf environment inside that ring to require anyone needing omnidirectional coverage to use two or three directional units spaced around the ring. Possibly a lot of elements, since that would allow them to reuse the same frequencies multiple times.
I'm still thinking those dish like objects are going to be enclosures for a variety of antenna elements. There's no possibility they'd need dishes pointed evenly around the perimiter like that.

It is interesting to see (when you can because the weather has been such shit here in NYC) all the progress that has happened the last few days.

When the weather clears we may see most of the perimeter of the newest 2 floors will have been completed. Never have we seen them work in conditions like this before. We've not even been able to see the top of the tower the last 3 days. Their dedication is really showing right now!

Not an outdoor observatory on the rooftop. That was determined a long time ago. However the indoor observation deck, as mentioned earlier will occupy 3 different floors, as opposed to the 1 floor on the original and that one on the rooftop.

NYguy
May 4, 2012, 8:06 PM
The roof height would be the 1,401'5" figure if I am not mistaken.

Even without the ring, there is mechanical space on top of the "roof" that would be considered the top of the building.

The original design had a problem during fabrication and the glass kept shattering due to the V notch in the back that formed the prism. So a new design / build contract was initiated and awarded this year. The renderings of what it looks like have been posted in the forum and Permetilistia has been busing installing the clips to support the "podium glass". You should expect to see the glass start being installed late this year.

The Port Authority said it would begin in March, but that obviously didn't happen. So i was checking the Port Authority website and it said it would be finished by early next year, They could atleast start cladding the upper part of the base. And early last week or the week before last, many people on this forum and skyscrapercity said they seen a delivery of base glass.

Almost everything you read at the PA's site is second hand info, if not third hand.
Communication path work like this:

Contractor > Construction Manager > Client

Take the steel erection project as an example:

DCM > Tishman Construction > Port Authority
