final stop on this trip: Troy. I love how it has nothing taller than 6-8 story structures and there are next to no parking lots to be seen.. a "cohesive" downtown if I've even seen one.

I am so happy to see a little bit of Albany here. It usually gets overlooked. There is so nice architecture and lots of history in that city.

Albany kicks ass.

Utica, Albany and NYC are the only places i really bother with in NY.

Excellent angles. Your photography is top notch.

Nice to see some areas that aren't normally covered, and some cool angles from the new parking garage.

I think I ought to stop fucking around in current events and get back on the photo trail myself.

Nice shots for sure. Pictures like that always make me miss it there. Where on the campus is that University Hall? I don't remember that being built when i was going there a few years back.

When looking at the school from the front lawn, it's just to the left, where the visitor's parking lot used to be.

Also, I came across this interesting shot while browsing through the Library of Congress. I didn't even know this existed, but this was the Hawk St. Viaduct, and was demolished in 1970. This picture was apparently taken right around that time. Check the cool approach to the Capitol and the Corning Tower topping out.

What a nice bit of fun that was. Among the overlooked upstate cities of NY. Don't know if you've done it yet, but this should be shared with all the folks in the city photos forum. Good stuff kz, thanks.

wow, I haven't been back to SUNY Albany in a couple years...so all those buildings are new to me. They were starting construction when I graduated...the University Hall isn't that bad looking...I just don't like how it is angled on the block...but I guess that breaks up the monotony of the rest of campus's layout and architecture.

I just hate that glass. That is where visitors go and is more or less the first building they'll experience on campus, and that 80s suburban office park mirrored glass does not say "transparency" at all.. rather it screams aloofness, not to mention the entry and how cooly blank it is. Gwathmey Siegel used the same glass on their Astor Place project in NYC, and I hate it just as much there

And does anyone know if those huge X's at the base of the old Montgomery Ward building are original? They're hideous and look like some leftover from the '70s supergraphics trend.

Great pictures, great thread. In the photo of the building getting the new panels, I believe the panels are some sort of composite. At least they seemed that way when I wrapped my knuckles on them. They store the ones going up in our parking lot next door.

Nice pics! Yesterday on my way back from NYC to Montreal, my bus made a stop in Albany and that Empire State Plaza complex looks very impressive from the highway! And it is nicely illuminated at night!

I liked that visitor's parking lot. When the planning department was moved to the former administration building in the front it was the perfect place to park for those of us either too lazy or too late to class to park in the regular lots and hike.

I too loved the visitor's parking lot, partially because of its convenient location, but mostly because I went through there every Tuesday during the school year for 5 years of my life.. the memories!!

Tough news, chums. The entire area around the podium is becoming car-free pedestrian space in the next 5-10 years.

They are also working on a BRT line that will directly traverse the Harriman, SUNY A and Nanotech campuses.

bpg88, i am definitely out of the loop a bit. Have they completely decided what the plan is for the Harriman campus? I'm sure hope of a mixed-use new urban type campus are only that, hopes. I saw someone else mention demolition of some sort is about to begin.
