Nice, but why didn't you get any shots of downtown?

{hehe, j/k} Got some time-lapse action going on there. What kind of camera?

Dougall, those are really crisp shots. Boy, do I need to get a new camera. Trying to wait until April for Canon Xsi (see below)

I took this photo from the East side of the city at 00:43 on Wed 06Jan08. I am trying out the noise reduction filters for photoshop
1. neat image
2. Picture Code's noise ninja (claims better wavelet algorithm)
3. Dfine 2.0 (attempting to be patient)

I especially need these filters with my old camera at night. I am trying to wait until April when the Canon Xsi is supposed to be release per announcement before the PMA show. There also is a sharpen plugin from Pixel Genius that I might try instead of using 'unsharpen mask' in photoshop.

1024x768
shutter priority, 0.4 sec, f/2.5, ISO 200, focal 21.0 mm, tripod
Neat image noise reduction
photoshop unsharpen mask (amount 30%, radius 1.0 pixels, threshold 4 levels)

Are you referring to the semi sphere underneath the arc of the Freemont bridge (I-405) in the photos in posts #9 and #11 of this thread?

This is a monolithic Dome that is 141 ft x 74.5 ft that is used for Cement storage by Glacier Northwest Inc a Seattle based subsidiary of Taiheiyo Cement. I tried to verify the dimensions by measuring along the straight structure in google earth to get a diameter. I measured a diameter at ground level of 142 feet. Use the 'Bird's eye' view at http://maps.live.com using the street adress to get a good image. You can see Glacier painted on the side of the dome.
If the 74.5 ft measurement is the radius at the highest point then it would be a semi ellipsoid or "semi prolate spheroid" a=b<c, x^2/a^2 + y^2/b^2 + z^2/c^2 =1 in an xyz cartesian coordinate system which is R3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ellipsoid Or you could just say that it is slightly egg shaped :)

^thanks...that same day I had a bottled water from I think Glacier NW or Glacier water (something like that), and I was totally disgusted at the thought it came from water stored in that dome.

Interesting building though. How do they construct it?

I am guessing that they must have used the methods on the website since they are listed on the Monolithic Dome Institute's web page. They show the basic method on their web site. They use an "air form" that is supported by blower fans during the construction.
How to build a Monolithic Dome
http://www.monolithic.com/plan-design/mdconst/index.html
1. steel reinforced concrete pad
2. Inflate air form
3. spray polyurethane on interior
4. assemble rebar on interior dome
5. spray shotcrete on interior dome

City Bible Church on rocky butte at 9200 NE Fremont Street Portland, Or has two monolithic domes that have diameters of 230 feet and 160 feet.
Google maps satellite photo of domes. (NOTE: It is worth looking at the Bird's eye view in maps.live.com.)
