Awesome pics there. Thanks, Boris.

I like those parking garage views of Downtown and Uptown. I hardly ever explore the medical center when I'm in Houston, I usually pass through it on my way to downtown and once I get back I'm too worn out, or out of time, to check it out.

Thx guys.

This was my funnest run. I took my 8 year old daughter with me and her best part was driving up and down the parking garage loops. All I heard from the back seat was Weeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! :D

What is the handsome white mid 20th Century (ca.1950) building used for today. As a child I remember looking out at that building from the old Shamrock Hotel, which was unfortunately demolished about 15 years ago. The building in your photograph used to have a Prudential "Rock of Gibraltar" sign at the top, and was used as a regional HQ for Prudential. I guess it was incorporated into the medical center at some point.

It's owned by the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and is used for admin. purposes. Unfortunately, it probably wont last much longer as UT MD Anderson has stated it wants to build something new rather than pay to keep the ole beauty up. They've built new all around it (new School of Nursing, new Ambulatory Care, new Research Bldg, and a new Faculty Center (21 floors) currently under construction.

It will be VERY sad to see this building go but it is on the Greater Houston Preservation Society's endangered list and UT MD Anderson seems hellbent on bringing the thing down. At least they wont sit on the property and turn it into surface parking ala the old Shamrock site!

I used to work in that building. Not so beautiful from the inside... But yeah, too bad they won't save it. Supposedly it's because the upgrading for the computer age will be extremely expensive, the heat generated from all the PCs is overwhelming the infrastructure or something like that....
