Official height confirmed to be 440'0" from mid-block elevation. Means +/- depending on where you're standing.

I'll say! Just think how much more so it will be when this tower is completed, the 25 story highrise is built in the last remaining space on the right in this block, and 181 plus Salesforce are in the view! That will be a phenomenal change in less than a decade.

Fremont will be a great candidate for the street makeover program being done in many parts of the City--sidewalks with bulb outs and amenities, great streetlights, new traffic signals, and a well planed tree scape from Market all the way to the top.

Making significant progress. I can see on Salesforce webcam now, and from my office in the North Financial District. Looking to start shooting up. Will be my single personal source of construction entertainment in the city now that other projects are topped out. Maybe 181 Fremont, too if that starts showing significant progress. Also, from some angles, one can see the unique shapes of the floorplate.

Nice to see it rising more steadily now. The skin is a little lighter than I expected. I thought it looked a little creamier in the renderings. Looking forward to seeing the large areas of glass on the west and east sides.

simms3_redux
Jun 15, 2015, 9:16 PM
Guys, I am fairly certain that what we are seeing rise is not the Handel design that we have seen rendered, but rather something that is a bit closer to the 2006 SF Planning approved design.

Yikes...wtf

From where I sit, I can see the building rising, it's north and west facing facades (the latter of which is now visible and is definitely not curved like the Handel design we've seen rendered).

simms3_redux
Jun 15, 2015, 9:22 PM
And disclaimer...in comparing Plannning docs to close up shots, maybe not. Maybe this is mostly the Handel design, based on shapes of the windows. It's pretty hard to tell that this will look like the Handel renderings, and part of that is the color differential between reality and rendering, and part of that is a lack of texturing, thus far, on the north side versus the rendering, as well as straight glass in the back as opposed to the curviness that's rendered.

While the color is a little lighter this is the Handel design. It wasn't that different...they just fined tuned it a bit. You can see the curve pretty clearly on the Salesforce Tower webcam (http://oxblue.com/open/clarkconstruction/salesforcetower).

I still have 20/20 and don't see a "curve" clearly on the webcam, and I am on the top floor of a building downtown and can see the construction, and it doesn't appear curved, but straight, in the back.

regardless, yes, it does appear to be Handel design, though with some major tweaks, particularly on the North side where I have yet to see the intricate cladding that presented itself in the rendering, despite there being large area of pre-clad already installed.

It seems like in the revised design, the precast panels on the north side were more in a brick bond pattern, rather than the original stack. What's showing up on the webcam looks like the stack.

Having recently driven up 1st, I can confirm that there definitely is a curve, and glass has been installed on the lower levels of it.

It all sounds like another value engineered design again, not exactly like any of the previous versions. Unfortunately, we're far too accustomed to that here. :(
it would be great if we're pleased with the final outcome, but we'll just have to wait and see.

I think this is currently my favorite building on Rincon Hill. I know we always wish things were taller but I wish this one were taller so that gorgeous curved glass wall could have more prominence on the hill.

Now, if someone could just plant some ivy on that PG&E substation or come up with any solve to make it not look like a horrible above ground bomb shelter.

We have official word that it has indeed topped out. From SocketSite (http://www.socketsite.com/archives/2015/10/40-story-rincon-hill-tower-rising-ahead-of-schedule.html), with a sweet shot taken from 399 Fremont across the street:

http://www.socketsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/340-Fremont-Topped-Off.jpg

Construction of the 40-story Rincon Hill tower rising up to 400-feet at 340 Fremont Street has topped out ahead of schedule (i.e., it’s not rising any higher). And the 348 apartments within should be finished by July of 2016.

Now, if someone could just plant some ivy on that PG&E substation or come up with any solve to make it not look like a horrible above ground bomb shelter.

Or paint, or power wash. Anything would make it better.

actually, i like the base more than anything. it is too bad they did not incorporate more of the design into the rest of the tower....ie., it would have been cool in some way added the same details to the crown.

What happened to the crown on this one? It looked like there were window cutouts in the rendering, but currently it just all looks white. You can see outlines, but that's it.

Yeah they value engineered this building after approval, it seems. The staggered window pattern on the non-glass portion was replaced with the more boring windows you see now, and then there's the issue with the crown that you mentioned.

Same thing that happened at NEMA with the same architect (Handel): dishonest renderings (maybe coupled with VE). It's why I'm concerned about the Mexican Museum/760 Mission building by the same guys.

Yes--this happens far, far too often here. The worst case in point is Trinity Place, but there have been many for a long time.
