Feb 25, 2007, 12:55 PM
^ You get to see it right now. :D This is certainly the largest update to date, so I hope you enjoy it! I only have two pictures for now, as it is 4:45 AM and I am tired, but alas, they are good pics. I already explained some of the new buildings a few posts back, so let's just get down to business:

What do you guys think?

Wow!
not just a new tallest...
Plenty new tallest!
absolutly worth the waiting!
Maybe my idea of a supertall aren't too crazy now. ;)

Patrick
Feb 25, 2007, 5:29 PM
WOW! Those towers are positivly huge! That last picture makes those towers look like they are over 2,000 feet tall! How tall are they?

We should make a diagram of the tallest buildings here, combining Palm Dunes, City City, Steinpolis, and Staunton.

I'd love to see some emporis pages!

foxmtbr
Feb 25, 2007, 8:48 PM
^ Surprisingly, the tallest big black one with the white corners is only 800'. The ESPN building is 630'. I think you can get an idea for the other tall buildings from there, the tall ones are in the 600-800' range. The highest point in Palm Dunes is at the tip of the spire of Two Pacific Plaza (the one behind PanPacific), at 910'.

Patrick
Feb 26, 2007, 6:09 AM
910'? Huge, but I dont know what, but they look way bigger than that, I'm not sure what it is though. I can clearly see how much effort you put into those towers :)

The new addition blends in perfectly. Wonderful job!!!!!!!!

foxmtbr
Feb 27, 2007, 12:22 AM
Thanks guys! Patrick I think they look taller because all I've been showing so far are 200-400' towers, and then the big boom brought along towers 3 or 4 times taller, giving them a massive appearance, even though they aren't that big. And lts, I was going for the Chicago look with the river, I'm glad you noticed. ;)

Tanster
Feb 27, 2007, 12:48 AM

Patrick
Mar 10, 2007, 2:38 AM
Great Stuff! Here is some Architectual Advice: This is California, most buildings have flat topped buildings. I dont think Spires fit with some of the city's supertalls. For Example, the Cybersoft Western Headquarters. The tower looks really NICE! But I dont think a spire goes with it well, along with the building next door. Of course, these are just suggestions, you do what you think is best :)

foxmtbr
Mar 10, 2007, 3:13 AM
Thanks for the tip, I see your point (puns intended). Which ones do you think should or shouldn't have spires (of the ones that already have them)? Two Pacific Plaza should obviously keep its spire, as it adds so much to the building, and I'll take off the ones you already mentioned.

Patrick
Mar 10, 2007, 3:27 AM
Actually, just those two, the other towers seem fine with a spire :) haha, I see your point haha thats halarious.

foxmtbr
Mar 10, 2007, 4:11 AM
Alrighty, I'll fix those two up then. :D Yes, I am quite the punster. :haha:

Edit: Here's an update on that, I added helipads instead:

Mar 11, 2007, 7:36 PM
Wow! Your textures are so clear!

Do you use the components tool, or copy and paste a group of people for your 2D Groups of people?

I copy and paste them from another file, in large groups of about 30-40 people. That's why I don't post aerials of where people are standing, because the groups are exactly the same shape. :P

Patrick
Mar 12, 2007, 5:21 AM
Have you tried the components tool? Where you can plop 2d people into your model, for a varaty.

Although there are only 10-15 people, but if you download the packs on the Sketchup site, you can plop hundreds of 2d people, instead of downloading from the 3D Warehouse. Same goes for cars and other components.

foxmtbr
Mar 12, 2007, 5:26 AM
Ooh! I'll definitely try that, probably tomorrow. Thanks for the tip! :D

Patrick
Mar 12, 2007, 5:30 AM
Oh and just in case you dont know

Window > Components

This also works for trees, once you download them into the model, they will be able to be ploppable. So that means you dont have to have the same Californian Palm Fan over and over again. Thats how I get different sized trees in Staunton.

^ Why, yes, it is! Haha, I'm glad someone noticed.

Great stuff. Now if only Sacramento could get an arena like that. ;)

Where is the arena in relation to the rest of the city?
Yes, Sac could use this very badly. :(

I am not going to paste it back into the city just for a picture, as that would take forever, so I'll just do this for now until I finish the section I'm working on. (Don't mind the old picture, the buildings I fixed don't have spires anymore.)

http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/962/update48arenauw6.jpg
It takes up a 2x2 block section, right about there, with the entrance facing the lower left corner of the block (southwest).

Nice job ajusting the skyline, now Two PanPacific Tower looks much more dominant. How tall is it again?

foxmtbr
May 14, 2007, 4:41 AM
Thanks! Two Pacific Plaza is 750', 910' with spire. The twins aren't named yet. I'm thinking of something with Palm in the name, but I don't want another "Plaza," and One & Two "Palm Place" sounds a bit odd for two massive towers. Anyone have any ideas? Feel free to stray from the Palm thing as well, I'm open to other ideas.

Patrick
May 14, 2007, 5:13 AM
Well I gave you the PanPacific name (I think you changed it back to One Pacific Plaza, oh well) lets see,

One & Two Palm Plaza
Palm Financial Center
Palm Corporate Plaza
One & Two Dunes Place/Square/Plaza
Palm Dunes Financial Center
West Square
Californian Plaza (no no the LA one is California Plaza ;) )
Santiago Plaza
One & Two Yosemitie Plaza

:D
