Nice pictures! I wonder how he got the photos, whether they're from his job or taken during some helicopter tour.

Great pictures! A lot of those were views I have never seen before. The peninsula shots were especially interesting, showing how relatively small it is.

Great pics that demonstrated a couple of things very clearly: Citadel High is in the middle of the Commons and should never have been built there -- the site should have been reintegrated into the Commons; and second, that the rail cut would make an ideal traffic solution for this city.

Awesome shots. I didn't realize Halifax has so many residential towers. Great find, thanks for sharing.

Great photos, thanks for posting.

Interesting points, all. As for the peninsula looking small, I think some of the photos are from deceivingly high up and still capture a large angle and a lot of detail.

Also, I see your point about Citadel High, Keith. It really does take up a huge space on the commons and makes for a distinct separation from Citadel Hill. Perhaps they could've temporarily moved all the QEH students to St. Pats, then torn down QEH and built the new high school there? It seems like a pretty big lot.

That picture also makes Halifax look extremely small.

That last pic is fabulous.

One thing it shows very well is how the Citadel really constrains the growth of downtown. Not that you could do anything about that, but it helps make the case for height being needed in development very clearly, and how foolhardy the limits both current and proposed truly are.

Ocean Towers are still Brunswick Towers without the makeover in that pic as well.

That picture also makes Halifax look extremely small.

Aerial photographs tend to be distorted so that objects far away from the camera look smaller than they should relative to the ones in the foreground. The Ocean Towers for example are only about 50% as tall as Fenwick, but they look maybe 80% as tall in the image. Similarly, in reality the area from North to Cogswell is about the same size as Cogswell to Morris but it looks much larger.

A watched The Nature Of Things last night, the subject was about vision and perception. An interesting note, the human brain has difficulty judging distance accurately in vertical dimensions. In fact similar objects appear up to 3 times smaller when they are the same distance below us as compared to horizontally distant. This is similar to the phenomenon of the Moon appearing much larger as it rises/sets than when it is overhead.
