Comparing to Burj Dubai, it is not highrising in the same way. We see here slowly. Maybe because of not being so high, it is not necessary the same speed to increase the floors.

looks a bit like midtowns old facade on the verizon as well.

The original rendering of this dominated the new rendering, how clad.

It is coming along very well. This is one of my favorite constructions in the world right now and I believe that it will be one of the best in Dubai if not the best. It's too bad because it's probably going to be very underrated and be in the shadow of the Burj Dubai.

I spotted the index in the background of a recent Burj Dubai photo, and damn! This thing has grown huge.

May not be the tallest, but will surely be one of the most imposing in Dubai for some time to come. Beautiful building in my opinion.

In the same way Burj Dubai none cladding in this also yet. Is Dubai so hot that none clad is need for inside refreshment?? :D But cool bldg beeing up. I've been in Dubai and saw too beautiful windows glass colored cover on bldgs. Of course the majoroty were not so new ones. The newer ones are not cover necessary anymore. Toooooo desert...

Comparing to Burj Dubai, it is not highrising in the same way. We see here slowly. Maybe because of not being so high, it is not necessary the same speed to increase the floors.Probably something to do with it's wedge shape. As it taperes in at different rates on all 4 sides the forms have to be adjusted after every level...so it's never going to be a 3 day per floor build like most section of the BD that has a fairly uniforn core most of the way up!

The shape reminds me a flash drive. But hey, that's probably why they call it "the index." Other than that, I think it's a nifty design.

How long is "long?" And if it has been going on for some time, why isn't the cladding-building height ratio similar to the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago. The cladding for that one is already all over the whole entire building except for the recent 3 or 4 floors that were just built. If you cover up the part of the building that is under construction, it appears as if the building is complete. Imagine if they did that for the Burj Dubai!!!

Short. They must have an easy system running apposed to Burj's, which is running at like 10 panels a day max (not floors).

The figure quoted (by me) was for the construction of floors not for the cladding.

There is alot more cladding on the front of the building (opposite side from what Imre's pictures show) but the tiles over the sides are at a very similar colour then the concrete underneath and the glass seams very transparent (due to lack of any interiour walls) so it is hard to see the cladding.

Below are close ups of the facade that I took on July 1st, but didn't posted in here:

I believe it could be because as the building gets taller, it seems to be getting slower. When the building was growing out of the ground, it seemed to be growing tremendously fast. Now that the building is much taller, one or two floors does not seem to be a lot. That is why it seems to be gowing slower.
But, I must also admit that it seems to have slowed down. Oh well, as long as they finish it, I will not care how slow it took.

Well, if you look at the renders, you can see a definite "split" around floor 28. getting there went really fast and then they were working on this 28th floor for months and months.
Even if the building didn't gain height during those, it did get much of its cladding done and undoubtably a lot went on inside. Now that they've started adding floors again the height is actually once more increasing at an impressive rate. It ain't Burj Dubai during its fastest growth but they're adding three to five floors a month now.

To me, The Index looks top-heavy. Probably because I did not see any picture of it until these most recent ones. Also, since construction was slow a while back, I got used to being only around 30 floors; but now it is at 40 floors. It seems that construction has picked up!

Hugs to Imre! I love the scale of this thing, and the new pics really show that off.

And to think The Index will be as high as Rose Rotana when it's finished. Awesome building!

Thanks for the update !
Foster could have made this design in 1985. This building will be the least futuristic in Dubai.

On the skyline it may be dwarfed by the BD, but on ground level it will deveintely dominate a pretty large area around, possibly all the way to the Downtown BD.

This building will be the least futuristic in Dubai.

I believe it is very nice, probably one of the best in Dubai.
I will agree that it is not one of Foster's best designs, but it is not terrible.

I'm not saying it's terrible.
I just think that it's not a contemporary design. Otherwise, it's very interesting, if only by its sheer size and its raugh beauty.

According to Emporis, completion is in 2008. But, that might have changed. A few months ago, construction slowed down a lot. Just recently it has begun to pick up. If the slowdown was not intended, then it might be delayed. This will then effect the projected 2008 completion.

Wow, just look at that. Dubai is really starting to look like one crazy, Las-Vegas-in-the-MidEast mother-fuckin' city.

In another year......I can't even imagine.

In another 10 years......I don't think anyone can imagine.

Only John Hancock seems to rival this skyscraper in terms of strength. I'm very impressed.

for me that building is one of the best buildings i've ever seen
five floors in two weeks , means 1 floor per 3 days ,the construction might finish within 3 to 4 months i think

This building has a powerful, brutalist feel to it, but it does it much more elegantly than the buildings from that era.

I like it, but it doesnt compare to the Chase Bank tower in Chicago.
Is it OK for me to compare these two, at least on some level?
