Thanks!

Lotsa new stuff, Mainly Callahan Square & Kennedy Heights. But I dont have enough time so I'll leave with this skyline shot.

An entirely new angle, as you can see many buildings were moved, making a more visially balanced skyline, originally the skyline formed one big steep mountian (which I really hated) but not now!

As you can see Kennedy Heights has its own individual skyline but looks great with Downtown from other views. Most of those buildings are from Staunton 1.0. A few are actually new designs.

Oh and this picture is barley photoshopped, this is Staunton without its makeup.

Staunton from the WEST
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/1720/00000001pr6.jpg

One more just for kicks. This angle shows the full density (most of it) of Staunton. After Jefferson, Jefferson Heights, Convention Center Area, that should be all the 45+ story buildings. There might be a West City Galleria area (somewhat like Houston) but that might be a little too much for a city with a little over 2 million.

Well Staunton did have a Baseball Team: The Staunton Bullsharks, Worst in the leauge! Remember the nice Baseball stadium: RegionBank Field? Too bad it was lost. I'll rebuild it sooner or later.

I also had an Indoor Area: Galprises Arena, which should pop up soon. I didnt have a name for the Basketball Team, any ideas?

Anyways, West Staunton is coming along Very Well.

Incredible work Patrick!! I find myself visiting this thread every time I come onto the forums to check for an update. Have you considered starting a new city/town? I've sadly stopped most of my sketchup work as after 6 tries I found myself not getting better at all, so I actually moved to Cityscapes using SSP drawgings. I aint no architect, as much as I wish I could be.

BoiseAirport - Ahh, there was once another City, remember Oceanside? Too bad it was lost, but I wasnt really working on it anyways. Staunton is going so well right now that I'd never consider stopping, I wonder how far I can go, without my computer busting.

But why did you stop with Huntington and (forgot the fancy name of your city in Maine)? I loved Huntington, it was like Stauntons Southern Brother (no pun intended).

Staunton Window Washers? Hmm, sounds right for Staunton, consiterting the amount a windows ;) Staunton Scorpions, also sounds great, could be one of the top possibilities, I'm just afraid it dosnt go well for an East Coast City.

Unfortunantly it is late, I'm tired, so I only have one pic (it takes FOREVER to export one single pic from Staunton, damn Shadows)

Here is a preview type shot of an area based off of Park Avenue in New York. As you can clearly see the resembalence. That is the StauntonLife Insurance Building, which was built over the grand Staunton Train Station in 1961. So Building currently houses the New Staunton Train Station, you'll see what I mean and more pictures, soon, hopefully.

Great Idea! I consitered that before, but eeh I didnt really think It would go well with the city. Now that the city has grown I also think Staunton needs a large office park.

It will be named the Hudson Corporate Center.

Phase 1 is already completed:
Cybersoft Industries World Headquarters

Cybersoft Industries is the Worlds Largest Multinational Computer Corporation, Cybersoft employes over 205,000 in 113 Countries. Originally Headquartered in the suburbs of Seattle, until the early 90's. As demand for Commercial Space skyrocketed in Downtown Staunton, Cybersoft saw a new opprotunnity. Cybersoft moved its headquarters to the new Hudson Corporate Center in 1992. The first two towers, Towers A & B, where the first of the Hudson Corporate Center, both completed in 1986. The taller, Tower C, did not start construction until 1989, When Cybersoft Announced it will move its headquarters to Staunton. Mayor Johnathan Goodman (Voted Stauntons Greatest Mayor, served from 1989-2001) viewed this as a major boost for Staunton and immedeatly approved the project. The move started the Ecenomic Boom for Staunton, which would later spread across the world. Of course, 2001, Stock Market Crashed, Depression Began, you know the story. Cybersoft did recover but now is in search for a more disirable city. It is unknown if Cybersoft will leave Staunton in the near future.

Teaser Shots, I guess.

Some Staunton History. yo.

Staunton has a population of an estimated 2,579,631, as of 2007. The City is America's 4th Largest City, originally 3rd, with a population of 2,876,467, before the Crash. Staunton has an unemployment rate of 18.9%, largest in the country, leaving Staunton with almost 1/3 of the city under the poverty line. Since 2001, the city has lost an estimated 296,836 people, all in just 5 years. Most moved away from New Jersey, or simply moved to the suburbs.

In Staunton either your rich or your poor. Staunton is home to the rich and famous, but also the poor and unlucky. The gap between the rich and poor has never been so big after the Crash. The main goal of a Stauntonite is to become extremely Rich and Famous. Once achiving this, you should be happy, as so it is thought. Staunton Square is littered with huge billboards of beautiful people, and conglomorate corporations. Such corporations like Galviston Enterprises (Now Called Galcorp) and JC Summit Entertainment have since controlled the city after the crash, the Mayor (Joe Greedson) and the rest of City Council are usually persuaded by the evil Corporations or organized crime leaders. The city's infastructure has virtually collapsed, but is showing signs of improving.

Staunton is a rather diverse city. A majority of the city is Caucasian, 41%, while 29% of the city is African-American. Then comes Hispanics (19%) and Asian (11%). Racial disharmony still exists in much of Jefferson, and Tremorton. The Jefferson Area, alone, has the highest crime rates in the country.

I'd also love to know the height of the tall one - looks like a biggie.

(whats the height?)

Despite its illusion, the Tower is not as tall as it looks. The top Floor, office of Dill Nates, floor 49, is only 591 feet above Street Level, the decorative spire is 680 feet above street level. The Tower gives the illusion of being much taller because it is located fairly far from the main central downtown core, when compared with the larger towers, Cybersoft looks a lot smaller than in person.

The two twinned towers are both 231 Feet High, 26 Floors.

Yay, an arena! It looks like the Scorpions could use some competition though, so the NBA just approved another expansion team for Palm Dunes. After exploring the possibilities of rendering Staunton, looks like I will have to retexture almost all of Staunton, since I need to reverse every face. This is good though, I can denfantly add more details, or remove some to save space, etc. This might take a while, but eh, I think Its worth it:

Nice renders, though I don't think Staunton really needs it, since it looks so great as it is! The reason why I feel I need to render my city is because I can't even get my computer to display all the textures in sketchup itself, if I want to see the whole city. It just freezes my PC. Also, there's a lot of strange aberrations and messed up things in sketchup itself, so the only way I can really see things clearly is by rendering. But Staunton looks magnificent!

Patrick, I feel your pain in reversing faces. I was working on a project of a highly detailed early 1900's warehouse building for architecture school. I modeled every little recess and cornice detail, and textured the whole thing. When I exported to 3ds, I discovered all the faces had to be brown, with no blue faces showing. It took me 20 hours to fix. I almost considered throwing the whole building out and starting over, but that would have been painfull as well.

Keep up the good work though!

Ouch! What a nightmare. I dont get it, whats the point of the "reversed faces" tool anyways. It dosnt really seem to do much.

Staunton has 30,187 Faces, I'd have to say at least 10%-20% of that actually has the faces reversed right. Heres to put it in perspective:
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/5537/00000001ok2.jpg

This might take a while :/

Although
I have extra time since its spring break, (dumbass Arizona, its freakin Winter, ugh I miss California) so Staunton will finally get some real development, lets here it for late nights!

The Garnett District

Demolished in the great Computer Crash of December 2006, The Garnett District had to be completly redone from skratch, all I had was pictures on this thread for reference.

BRIEF HISTORY

1950's - 1990's

The Garnett District peaked in the 50's, the area was very vibrant and full of young teens and adults. Torwards the 60's most of the residents moved to the suburbs, and crime took over the area. Garnett quickly became a rathole full of corruption, crime, racial, and gang disharmony. It was Jefferson on Staunton. Of Course everything changed where Mayor Johnathan Goodman focused on the area in the early 90's.

1990's

The original Staunton Scorpions arena was falling into disrepair and was replaced with the much more modern and sleek Arena in 1993. Abandoned Garnett Square was soon transformed back to the glory days it experienced in the 50's. Clubs popped up everywhere, billboards and advertisments soon filled the area with life. Although in 2001, much of the area was abondoned, left to be ruined by the Stock Market Riots.

TODAY

The Garnett District today, includes The Galcorp Arena, Garnett Square, The Staunton Convention Center, The Jersey Hotel, and One Monmouth Plaza. The district is mainly now industrial and abandoned, but has been slowley converting itself back into the"hip" side of Staunton, like the 90's. Most of the old factories are being converted into the next big thing, Lofts. Garnett Square has recovered but is not as vibrant as it was. Many locals still call Garnett Square "Little Staunton Square"

Ok, heres an overview. The two boxish Modern Buildings are the Staunton Convention Center (smaller) and the One Monmouth Plaza Building. The Convention Center is one of the Largest in the East Coast, completed in 1965. The One Monmouth Plaza Building was completed in 1968 and is one of the Largest buildings in the city. Galcorp Arena, Several Loft/Factories and Garnett Square are all visible.
http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/3124/00000001ee2.jpg

Garnett Square, you can see several lowrise clubs and 40's - 50's Architecture.

The Jersey Hotel is seen on the upper left side, The famous Garnett Building is also seen, with its famous GARNETT Sign installed in 1954. The sign has been seen in many postcards and moveis, but has since fallen into disrepair. The the center is the Garett Square Tower, now completly vacant, and is only used for billboard space.
http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/8743/00000001fl4.jpg

The new Galcorp Galleria is a part of the new Garnett District ReDevelopment Project, it was completed in 2005, right across the street from the Galcorp Arena.

Agh I started a new page, go back a page to see the Gorgous renders

Penn Insurance, cool, you noticed the logos, I actually mentioned earlier as the One Monmouth Plaza (Monmoth is the County Staunton would sit on) I changed it since, Staunton would just replace Monmouth County, so techinacally it wouldnt exist. I changed it to the Penn Insurance Building.

Its 584 Feet High, I'm estimating it is 49 Floors High, smaller than than original building lost in the computer crash, (due to Skyline Views) It was originally the 2nd Staunton Federal Building. Now that the Federal Building is in Torrington, the building was renamed to One Monmouth Plaza, then finally the Penn Insurance Building.

Jaw-dropping.

Wow, I really must pick up on this Kerkythea thing.

Wow. Those renders really make the glass realistic. How hard would it be to render every window like that? Or at least the fully glass buildings? Keep up the work, I think the reversing of the faces is worth it.

Have fun with render times for glass once you've reversed everything. :D

CGII your right, it can usually take 20 or so minutes to finish a rendering. Way too much time, and the Results are not really that great. I'm still not sure if its worth it, maybe I'll post a rendered shot every weekend or so and usual shots on most updates.

really really amazing, I don't think there's any more that can be said, it's truly realistic. I love the glass reflection, I'll have to learn how to do that. It looks great in sketchup too. Work to be extremely proud of, for sure.

I think the rendered is awesome and has huge potential. Maybe different angles, like street level. I say, give it a few more chances before giving up on the rendering.

^Already downloaded that file earlier. It was quite confusing, the directions barley helped. It was mainly components (why?) and the main file for Sketchup and Kerkythea. And the textures where still flipped.

But Staunton is pretty much all reverted, as you can see in the rendered image. Just a few more spots.

Yeah, oops, I just realized that while browsing the forum over there.

my goodness, Patrick - I've gotta say, that pic is -the- best shot of Staunton I've seen - the realism there is astounding.

Woah, lotta comments, I like that ;)

Well Spring Break is coming to a close :( Grr, what a waste, everyone went out of state (well it is Arizona) so I had plenty of time for Staunton. Garnett District is done, I'll probably add more lowrises, not sure when Jefferson returns. :/

Quick Render.

Wow. That one just feels so incredibly realistic. I can imagine it's about 6:15 on a pleasant mid-July evening, and I'm up there at my buddy's apartment on the 20th floor, sippin' back the beers, and looking out onto the strip we'll be hitting up in a couple of hours. Haha.

(I don't know if the building the shot was rendered from is actually an apt. building, but since it's an older 1920s office tower, maybe it was converted recently?)

Patrick
Mar 18, 2007, 8:06 PM
^Thanks! Yeah actually the view is from a 1920's Hotel The Hudson but now that I think about it, it would be a much more realalistic idea for the hotel to be converted into lofts, due to its location.

^ No its early, its Arizona, we are a month earlier, School Starts August, Ends May, I think it is due to the heat.

Spring Break even though its not even Spring yet. :haha:

Anyways, looking down Phantom Avenue in the good old days, with everyones favorite Cybersoft Building.
