Maldive, you sound as if you find the desert disgusting. The world contains thousands of different biomes and ecosystems, and none of them is better than any of the others, they are all equal. Also you say "urban" as if Dubai is not urban. They are growing at a rapid pace, just wait 5 to 10 years and the whole area will be filled with skyscrapers due to Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Sheikh Zayed Road, and the Dubai International Financial Centre. Then lets see how similar New York and Dubai are.

Oh sweet Jesus would you shut up, he wasn't trying to start a City vs. City, lets not turn this thread into off topic BS, its been doing really well lately...

Its perfectly valid to wonder what BD would look like in a denser environment such as NYC, Dubai is not as dense as NYC and probably won't be for the foreseeable future even with all the projects you mentioned, its too spread out, and its perfectly legitimate to state that. He didn't mean any offense to Dubai so you don't need to go off the handle right away...

I believe that Vanherick has actually posted several pictures showing what this would look like next to the old WTC skyline, it was interesting to say the least.

I can't believe I am going to say this, but, Vanherick, could you dig up some of those photos of BD in other cities again for us?

Too bad the rendering above is so off-scale. Imagine if the chicago spire was actually going to be that wide! And I totally agree nowhereman - Whether you love or hate Dubai, the lack of true urban fabric is obviously missing in damn near every photo available of that city (city being on the large scale, not just small street-long shots). The scrapers are so spread out that it really looks as though they are building for the sake of building (an argument I will not get into here). I know the plan for the future argument, so please spare us. Let's just all (Lovers, Haters, Indifferent) pray that the plans are recognized and not left on the drawing board. Otherwise...

Oh, in all the comotion it appears as though I have forgotten my comment on the Burj.... I have to echo the thoughts of those above who would love the to the Burj in a denser area. I think it really sucks that the base of the Burj is going to be built up into a resort-like area. This is precisely what I believe the forumer was trying to say (sorry if that isnt right at all). I would love to see the Burj on a normal block, with scrapers rising 50 feet away right across the street, as opposed to set aside in the middle of an amusement park designed to accentuate it. I know this is supposed to be a "landmark, high-point of a larger development" type of building, but to me this sort of planning in a city destroys the opportunity for true urban fabric. Just my two cents.

Jun 22, 2007, 2:31 AM
Not me, I take the opposite tack. I think the setting is ideal for a new style of supertall. All the others are set in a normal block and amongst other towers in a grid. Dubai isn't going to look like that at all and I find that extremely cool. I love seeing the renders of business bay and the surrounding areas. Looks more like the resort it is more than just a bland grid of blocks that we have in most cities.

I especially like the waterways meandering through the towers. I know the photographers will have a field day taking photos when this all gets built. I know I would.

The diagram from Culwulla on SSC, that vanhenrik posted on the post 3921, unfortunatelly as usual without giving any credit to the person who did it, is the CLOSEST to the real think you can get.

The numbers quoted are CORRECT ... unless they're going to pump the concrete higher then 585.70 meters. The steel section on top corresponds to the revision 7 done one year ago, and is still valid.

I would like to know why you believe the location "sucks." Are you referring to the city or the exact locatin within Dubai? Make sure you realize that the whole area is still under construction, and what you see today will not be anything close to what it will be a decade from now.

Don't get me wrong, I know dubai is a great city and most of it is under construction. I like dubai alot I was just refering to the construction site and almost everything around it, the place just looks weird and akward. Why do you think that Imre and others put their names on their pictures? If a website took one of Imre's pictures and put it on their website, Imre could sue them. Why do you think Imre puts the little copyright logo on his pictures?

Aside from that, it's bad manners to not give proper credit to someone else's work. Regardless if their name is on it or not.

I'm sure they will grass over, and have lots more water areas in the coming decades. Currently, yes, the entire area looks pretty icky. For relatively little money that could truly create an oasis in Dubai.

Jason, Yes the structure is done.

Actually since you didnt read any of this thread before you posted all of the windows and interior spaces are complete as well.

All they have to do is put sprinkles on top and we are good to go.

What is fo fukking difficult to write: "Diagram from Culwulla on SSC" and everyone is happy? Do you have any idea how anoying you become when insist of total ignoring what people keep telling you and repeting to you day, after day, months after months. :sly:

And don't fukking post the same thing over and over again in every page.

Why don't you just ignore what he is doing rather posting this nosedive response. This language is not needed here. You're going to turn this forum into the absolute KRaP that is being spewed in Skyscrapercity. That BD thread is nothing short of an embarassment. Talking about overposting and nonsense.

This is JUST a tall building thread, not major journalism. I'm getting more sick and tired about the copyright COPS who are also clogging up the thread than those who post without credit.

I have revelating news here. This is the internet with all of it's good and all of its bad. UNPOLICED!

I can just imagine those who complain about posting photos without giving credit, yet secretly BURN music off Limewire and the like.

You know how the BD looks in the computer pics in the skyline? it completley dwarfs everything around it lol. Do you think it will actually be like that when its built? I think its exaggeration, but just think it is huge it will be above the clouds lol. And then they might build AL Burj as well, which will dwarf BD! i cant wait to see the skyline when all this is done. i'll plan a trip down there just to see those 2 SS.

Actually it's been finished for years, but there is a random time warp bubble that floats around enveloping some people in a haze that makes it only appear to be still under construction. Seems our friend has had the time warp effect happen to him. Call 911. lmao:jester:

Ummmmmmm......

There are around 5 serious proposals right NOW that would be taller than this. Not to mention the fact that cities around the world are growing at their fastest pace ever. I'd give it 5-10 years. Max.

I remember seeing an article on how to do this trick on any
picture. You use Photoshop (or any program of this type),
with a blur here and there, and a couple of other adjustments,
and the effect is amazing. Although this picture is good, I have
seen some that you really can't tell it is a real city.

LOL I was just comming back to Beyond_1000 for what he wrotte about me ... basically teasing him for his nick name and the association he wants to give it with the height of Burj Dubai.

There are no CAD files to be shared, not that they'll show anything that importantant that we haven't already seen on the diagrams posted.

When you say "ummmmmmm" - does that mean your thinking really really hard?
Or maybe your trying to remember what you were going to say.
Or is it a serenity mantra that you use before each posting?

Anyways, there is only one realistic proposal at the moment to go higher and that's Al Burj.

And, did you notice how they used my ideas for the CS redesign?? Right down to the white granite floor! I might have to sue for copyright infringement!! lol
It's much better now, but still in need of refinement.
Like I said before, it seems like a grade 6 child is designing that thing, not a trained architect. Anyways, good to see the design improving. Still a ways to go yet. I'm pretty sure the banks are still balking though, even after the redesign.

Ya - just like the Extreme Engineering episode I can't find any info for Canada yet. It will probably be later in the fall here but I will keep an eye on discovery.ca. Want to record it to my computer like the first show.

Also I was one of the SSC "kids" begging AltinD for those plans he has. Frig I'm old ... Here they are if you haven't seen them - Thanx AltinD - Perhaps nothing new but I would just like to read them - and add them to my database of course.
