Burj Dubai , I counted 125 floors

Why would you count? lol

About the pictures, I like daily updates with pictures thats why I come here. It is fun watching this building grow and we can use this thread as a nice archive once it is done.

I thought everyone here new about Brian McMorrow on PBase.

http://www.pbase.com/bmcmorrow/root&view=recent

One of the best websites of Dubai pics and all of it is his original material. There are many aerials, so he spends the money to regularly get great shots.

He travels around the earth on a constant basis as well, so you also get to see his other great locations.

He is an Emirates Pilot and a very nice person.

He is on the left side and i am the guy on the right side.

:whip: :previous: The above list is complety wrong. Considering many Tv/Observation Towers like Ostankino in Moskow 540m high and CN Tower in Canada 553m high and considering the spires of the WTB like Sears Towers this Burj Dubai is not even in 10th place as tallest. Of course if we forget the Tv Towers and spires, wrongly thought as they count as Structures belonging, then Burj Dubai is quite reaching the mark. See that I did not include the Masts as we have some ones 600m high. So as Structure the Burj Dubai is pretty not that tall already. :whip:

The Observation Towers has observation decks in tv Towers mainly with a cafe and some restaurant. So it is habitable in someway and then should be put together in list. Only the Masts are inhabitable and could be avoided right now. But the list should include all Tv/Observation Towers open to public and the spires in highrise as belong to the structure at all.

Any updates on what date we will start seeing see some curtain wall on this building? Wasn't it supposed to be sometime in May? I want to see some glass!

What, if any, interior work has been completed on the lower levels without any curtain wall in place? Perhaps some rough plumbing work? It seems meeting the completion deadline of late 2008 will be a miracle.

I found two quite interesting pictures and I don't remember seeing them on this thread. If they are here, I am apologising.

http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com/news_images/Burj%20rendering.jpg - This is an ultra HQ rendering of the building - resolution is 2550x5100 pixels and I think is of the revised version with the proper top.

http://www.worldarchitecturenews.com/news_images/1000%20Burj%20model.jpg - this is a 1000x2100 pixel picture of a real scale model of the building, giving somewhat of a real perspective what will the Burj look like with some cladding on it. It is also with the better top.

:previous: Ok, take a good look at the HD render and it matches exactly with the floor height figures I posted in October last year!

Levels 123-124 are 6m high each (split level ob deck!)
Levels 125-135 are 4.0m high
Level 136 is 4.8m high
Levels 137-139 mech floors are 5.0m high
Levels 140-149 are 4.8m high
Levels 150-153 are 5.5m high
Levels 154-185 are 5.0m high
Levels 186-206 are 6.0m high
Levels 207-216 are 4.2m high
Pinnacle is 110m high!

Lets assume EMAAR's current height are right (which they're not!) The discrepancy from datum ground to L1 is 15.2m in variation!

You have 442m (current height)
+12m
+40m
+4.8m
+15.0m
+43.2m
+16.5m
+155.0m
+120m
+37.8m
+110

Add all that together and you get a height of 996.3m

Now add the 15.2m discrepancy between EMAAR's figures and my GPS one's and you get 1011.5m http://www.skyscrapercity.com/images/smilies/banana.gif

Your a genious Skytower. If that is a true rendering from SOM, then this does take BD to over 1km. It would be funny however as to why SOM/Emaar would want to release a superclear photo rendering of the building as CLEARLY having over 200 floors while all the while claiming only 160 or so. Interesting to see when the concrete core reaches the 156th floor as to what happens next. Just to point out that by your source the core was to be heightened to 647m in order to achieve this 1011m height.

yep, already posted around December:
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=2495875&postcount=121
on that page contains a link to all renders of the BD, old and new (need to update it with about 20 more new ones sometime)

One of the renders had to be reposted here due to people downloading it so much, it exceeded my bandwidth:
http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=2516723&postcount=232

BTW, those who debate the height issue, remember one thing:

Sky Tower: A Besix design house member has inferred that a height of 1011m has not only been a consideration, but is being built, creating the worlds first 1km tower! From it's current constructed status, I and other designers have come up with some very plausible 1km versions of the building ourselves without losing any of its proportion, with a continuation of another round of concrete setbacks before the steel pinnacle is erected. Have heights of this magnitude ever been considered for this site?
Adrian Smith: "Yes!"

My take on the too many pictures discussion. I love to click on the different threads and see different people's takes on the various projects. Even if they are from a somewhat simular angle, different photog, different eye, view, take, ect. Its great stuff, and I hope people continue to contribute.

What does annoy me is when people (ahem :previous: ) quote a post, leave all of the pictures intact and write a quick one line response. To me that is unnessicary and irritating --its not the download time (highspeed) it is the wading through all of the duplicates trying to get to new material.

That being said, I can not wait until the cladding starts going up. To me that when the "real" BD will start to emerge.

If reaches 1011m= 1km high, it would be the first Highscraper to reach 1km for Guiness book forever. Maybe this is the intention of UAE, beeing the first reaching 1 Km, it doesn't matter who comes second, maybe also UAE with Al Burj or other, but Burj Dubai could be the First Forever Young.

Let's wait photos for Cladding, that will be also a real mark instead of having just Concrete Structure.

That is exactly why it would be in their interest to push for one kilometer. They will have the world press on their door. If Al Burj reaches 1.2km and BD has already hit 1k, then Big Al can get tallest building title but not the thunder of the big kilometer. If BD gets just over 800m and then Big Al comes in at 1.2km, not only does it surpass the incredible BD by 50% but with it goes the hoopla of crossing 1k.

Lotta fun, lotta fun

Geez people, calm down with the massive pics. esp vanhenrik. Dont quote with massive pics, delete the ones you are not talking about. That and to the several people who posted updates: We all think its nice to see updates, but dont post the same damn thing over and over again. We don't need to see every single pic of Burj that has been taken on any given day. That and please dont post timelines with 12 massive pics. And for all of you who are taking the whole massive pic thing as a joke, you guys are immature, and the people who like to see pic updates are starting to get pissed at the heavy amounts of pics coming in because of it. Not funny.

Anyway, 1km now? I would love to see that, just as long as they dont get too thin on the upper floors. I've never really thought about going to Dubai till lately, and I'm starting to like the idea. Mabey I will go after my China summer trip in '08.

that doesn't look like the building I'm talking about Altin. It's just right of center in the photograph, four or five buildings closer to us than the only building on the right side of the street with a tower crane. I'm trying to figure out how better to describe it without saving, cropping, marking up and reposting the photo. It's short and rectangular and red (the brightest colors in the pic) and spreads out in a whitish base towards the bottom.

In looking at the façade pictures from the Skyscraper Museum that Fury posted, I never realized the similarity in cladding between Burj Dubai and Trump Chicago, especially the vertical spines between the panes. Those shots form the top really give you a sense of scale for this project. Truly awesome.

Some shots from the Skyscraper Museum's Burj Dubai presentation:tup:

Did you notice all the pics/plans/blueprints all over the walls in the virtual tour?
Seven large mosaic panels on the gallery cases illustrate aspects of the construction process of Burj Dubai from site preparation through the completion of 100 stories in March 2007. Arranged chronologically, these 1,344 photographs, taken as regular documentation shared among the architects, engineers, and contractors, show in detail how a tall building is constructed through on-site activities, various building components, and material testing procedures.

Because the installation of the curtain wall has not yet commenced, these photographs provide an unusual glimpse of a supertall defined solely by its structure. The lower images of the seventh panel show the March 2007 curtain wall testing in China.

Slugbelch
May 11, 2007, 7:47 PM
I only see those big mounts (1st pic) on row 19 only. None above or below. Only the cement anchors are below 19 and they've been there forever. Plus, considering that many on the project said that it would go in overdrive to put them on, and yet only this one side and this one spot, with no activity anywhere else.

After all that has transpired with this problem, and a years delay, sorry, but I'm still skeptical. Maybe in a couple weeks when there are a couple rows started.

Hollie Maea

^ As you very well know with your battles with Sky Tower, you just can't go by what one person says in a small sentence. Over here, and like you say over and over again at ssc, sources are required. I'm not saying that he's lying, I'm saying that the cladding track record on this tower is not very good and to jump up and down because 7 panels are on is a bit premature

^^ True he could be wrong, but he's always been right in the past (he's made a number of statements in the past that have ended up true). Anyway, we'll see in the next few weeks :)

Edit: He was the one who broke the news that they were going to try to start cladding last November, about a month and a half before it happened. As we know, the facade test failed, but he was right in his information regardless, and they would have started when he said if the test hadn't failed. I think he has inside connections with the cladding people (but yeah your point is well taken about not blindly believing what people post about inside connections ;) )

Rise To The Top

Either way, I was mostly right on the cladding. They will have a floor or two max by the next two weeks. Most of the workers are being concentrated on the unfinished wing tward the top. I'd say once that wing is finished then we will see lots of cladding going on.

BTW, updated Flickr's The Burj Dubai (http://www.flickr.com/photos/7374456@N04/favorites/) through March 1 2006. From there until Dec. 06, it will be slow going since there are roughly 4,500 pics to sift through per month, but once I hit Jan 07, it will go a lot faster ;)
