True, finally the CN Tower. If one considers it a building or not that is their affair. BD's number one milestone would be surpassing the world's tallest freestanding structure at 1815 ft and Taipe101 is just a hurdle.

As I go by roof height for prefered measurement, and also count towers as 'buildings'....... BD will for me become the true world's tallest when it surpasses the 457m mark (top of CN Sky Pod).

Only 15 metres to go :)

There are 2 major moderators on that thread.

It's not my place to tell you what is right, but go back a few pages here or from the SSC link above, or for more condenced info try the other thread in the Middle East & Africa section here (http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=71308&page=25) and make your own decision! ;)

Thats not just opinion, that is fact. Today the Petronas Tower is in no way, shape or form the World's Tallest Building and hasnt been since the Taipei101 surpassed it in "official" height. The Sears Tower ironically is still clinching on to the WTB title in one category, pinnacle height, to be surpassed by Burj Dubai later this year.

there is a big difference between 380 meters and 440 meters, why is there a discrepency all of a sudden? At 440 its on the verge of surpassing the Sears Tower, at 380 it is just passing the Empire State Building. However we can assume that the current floor count of about 110 is correct, right? It is already in construction time of a giant, so many questions are still open to this challenge be true for us. I expect also not being a Corean one. That would be sad. I hope also the tallest intend hotel in world to be finished someday, when the inflitrations in concrete still allow it to be cladded and used as hotel or some other official occupancy. :sly:

History

Brainchild of the Chicago based Skidmore, Owings & Merrill architect Adrian Smith, the Burj Dubai Tower started life in the guise as the 560m Melbourne Grollo Tower design proposal.

Due to an overwhelming construction cost it was scrapped, only to be reborn in May 2003, as the tower was redesigned into a 705m proposal for a large plot in the Burj area of Dubai.

According to the developers, it will be the tallest building on earth. However at the end of June 2006 a height of 2650ft (807.7m) has been made public by some of the firms involved in this project.

Since the first groundbraking around the site on September 21st 2004, there have been many un-official changes in the towers final height by those working closely to the project.

Recently it has been confirmed to have been 808m in May 2005, but again it's thought to have been redisigned from many new sources, from the steel structure upwards, again raising the final height and again under great secrecy!

- Observation decks will be located on the 142nd and 143rd floors at a height of 537m.

- Scheduled to be opened in June 2009 (revised Dec 24th 2006).

- Will have the fastest elevators in the world with a speed of 1050m/min (65 kmh / 40.4 mph).

- Soon to be the undisputed tallest structure ever built, in every catagory, by a huge margin!

- Latest official sources suggest the 5th (maybe not the last) tower re-design has been quoted to have a final build height of 1011m+

The Burj Dubai Tower, now with 115 above ground floors has the most levels of any building in the world, exceeding the 108 floored Sears Tower in Chicago!

end info fron wikopedia

The Burj Dubai (Arabic: برج دبي for "Dubai Tower") is a supertall skyscraper currently under construction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, at 25°11′50″N, 55°16′26.60″E. The lead architect is Adrian Smith formerly of the Chicago office of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill and now partner in the firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. Its final height is officially being kept a secret due to competition; however, figures released by a contractor on the project have suggested a height of around 808 metres (2651 feet).[2] Based on this height, the total number of habitable floors is expected to be around 162. However, on the project's official website, an interior graphic of an elevator panel shows floor numbers up to 195. A more recent article by building subcontractor Persian Gulf Extrusions states a final height "over 940 metres" or at least 3084 feet,[3] but this has not yet been confirmed by Emaar. This new figure is 24 metres higher than the final height rumoured on the official website. Another source, from dubaimegaprojects.com reported an estimated final height of 1011 metres and a floor count of 216 floors.

You know, the amount of tapering that it has left can't be very much, so i think that it will be the 2650 ft.

The moderator in skyscrapercity locked up the BD thread for stupid posting. I'm so happy he did this. Every second there is a post about nothing. No wonder there are so many parts. Let's not post jibberish on this thread people.

Yes BorisMolotov, the amount of tapering doesn't indicate that this building will be 1km tall unless they have something up their sleeve we don't know about. It will be interesting how this plays out.

It will not be 1011 meters tall. I already explained many reasons why it is totally unrealistic that this thing's height will somehow be changed. I'd give it a less than 5% chance of happening. Seriously, they can't even get the fucking cladding on this thing, and you think they will build taller?

We already all know that the top 200 meters or more of this building are there solely to boost its height, and you think they will add 200 meters more? Give me a break.

I wouldn't have said anything had you not named a post as "facts."

Regardless of it not going to 1K, this thing will be the WTB for a good long while, IMO. Sure, there's plenty of talk of other buildings going higher, but I'm damn skeptical. 800M is freaky tall.

Well it's all about money right ? If we can think about another example of local wealth and political will, a new WTB might be built quite quickly...
It probably won't happen in the US, Japan or Australia but any fast growing place could go for it (10 years maybe) !

I have to agree with @Pandemonius, they will try to keep the timeline, not having punishment in contracts and the cladding is already delayed due to reasons we know. So they will not play with incertain now, with the height thema, changing a lot of things. I believe in 807,7m reality than saying 1k it is just marketing facts to promove the bldg and making it more famous it is already, not constructions facts. 800m is a great challenge to reach and will keep that mark as WTB for a while.

I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but according to Emaar (emaar.com),

Level 110 = 380.1 m
Level 111 = 384.9 m
Level 112 = 389.7 m
Level 113 = 394.5 m

So each floor in this range is 4.8 m high.

I believe Emaar only counts floors that have been completely poured.

Sites like dubaimegaprojects.com need to stop spreading misinformation. Level 115 and 441.29 meters? That's impossible.

asdf

If a floor is completely poured and is around 400m or so that is logical to count that high.

I think dubaimegaprojects is looking at it from a different perspective, not entirely false. For example, Guinness book, back in 1973 proclaimed the Sears Tower as tallest building when one steel column surpassed the World Trade Center in height when it reached what would be the 104th floor.

The question is, is the very top of pouring on BD 441.29m or 41m or so above the top completed floor?

Different perspective, nobody is really wrong.

Hey asdf, haven't heard from you in a while.

That's an interesting diagram because when you see the buildings all lined up like that the one that really looks massive is the Russia Tower. Of course it won't be nearly as tall as the Burj Dubai but the sheer bulk of this building is going to be very impressive.

because the curtainwall manufacturer went belly up last fall. I don't know the status of their getting a new one, but even if they had been able to get a new one relatively quickly, they would need a great deal of lead time to manufacture all that glass for a building of this enormity.
