Hopefully I can recover the info soon.

should anything in lv surprise us anymore? that "defected" building is never going to be safe at least in people's minds after all the press, and it was a symbol of failure anyway. Better to replace it with something that actually is some use instead of a giant Elvis billboard. Or maybe in the far future they'll put a better tower there the correct way.

oh well the Cosmo will have better visibility :)

I hope they demo the Harmon, there no way in fuck that I would EVER go in it after the rebar mishap!!! It is technically a defective structure. Even if it were chopped down to five floors, I still would not go in it. As much as I liked the design, demolishing the Harmon would make room for on-hold or future developments to speed up the pace such as Echelon or Fontainebleau!!!

Plus, I'd rather have non-defective structures as opposed to defective structures, lol...

Yeah I kinda figured that, it will be like the Deutch Bank Building demolition just to the south of the World Trade Center in New York. Hopefully it won't take as painfully long to deconstruct the Harmon is it has the DB building... Also, hopefully better saftey practices are put in place and nobody dies in this decostruction as opposed to back in 2007 at the DB site.

It's definitely a live and learn situation in which all involved learned the very hard way. I am not worried about any materials going to waste because concrete and metal can be recycled and I am sure the windows will be in some way, shape or form reused for another project somewhere down the road...

Well I don't think they will do that anyways because they would have to close the bridge that connects City Center with Cosmopolitan which is the only way that City Center gets foot traffic on the west side of the strip. That is just my thought.

It's a shame but what happened to the building is such a mess that I don't think they have any viable option. The Harmon would have been one of the best buildings at CityCenter IMO.

I don't know what they could build to attract visitors at that corner, but I KNOW it won't be condos.

Just throwing this idea out there. Why not have the property repurposed? Convert it into their missing Marquee. It's a gorgeous building. Perhaps adding some lighting effect to it to show off the glass colors at night? Removing some of the glass for LEDs or have the gridded or mesh LEDs added?

I'm not sure on logistics, but I wonder if they ever considered this instead of demo. Mr Chow's may be able to still occupy?

sssoooo iknew the condo market was bad...but not this bad:

http://m.lvsun.com/news/2010/nov/12/condo-sales-citycenter-mixed-bag/

makes you think of all the wasted time, energy and money it took to advertise and market these highrises that resulted in failure......

• Trump Tower – 327 closings of 1,282 units

• Turnberry Towers – 346 closings of 636 units.

• Sky Las Vegas – 332 closings of 409 units.

• One Queensridge Place – 138 closings of 219 units.

• Allure – 282 closings of 428 units.

• Juhl – 35 closings of 346 units.

• Newport Lofts – 162 closings of 168 units.

• Panorama north tower – 70 closings of 372 units.

CityCenter announced these closing numbers, which SalesTraq confirmed virtually matched their research. They include:

• The high-end Mandarin Oriental, where 205 of 225 units were under contract at the beginning of the year and 61 units have closed, leaving a supply of 164 units.

• Veer, the lower-priced twin towers, had 450 under contract out of 667 units at the beginning of the year. So far, 212 units have closed, leaving 545 units.

• The condo-hotel Vdara had 698 of 1,495 units under contract and has closed on 150, leaving 1,345 units to be sold.

.

I’ve always had concerns about the wisdom of putting permanent residents on the Strip. In an area that reinvents itself every ten years, putting in components that are not easily able to be refitted, just seemed like a poor idea. I can see a mess of legal battles coming down the pike. It will be interesting how this plays out.

I’ve been more positive on downtown condos. Since the downtown area, doesn’t need to shift its image as much to the public whims, it’s seems more natural for a permanent residential structure. Of course, the problem here is the seediness of the area. It’ll be hard to attract folks to live until it feels cleaner and safer. I believe downtown will eventually clean up nicely, but we’re at least 10 years away. If Juhl is abandoned it will be a major blow. Hopefully, the condos could be converted into apartments before that happened.

Any Numbers on Streamline?

the bookshelves are pillars wrapped in lcd screens in the hotel lobby. they will be displaying many other graphics depending on events, time of day, etc... the bookshelves are a very short part of the presentation.

THAT'S SO SICK

sssoooo iknew the condo market was bad...but not this bad:

Despite this it doesn't seem like the deals to be had are that fantastic. Not that I can see, anyways...

I sure wouldn't mind a place to call home when it's -30 up here :haha:

[QUOTE=HX_Guy;5016180]Looks like the bridge opened to some people today and it looks great but is it just me or is that railing for pedestrians awfully short for such a bridge? Wouldn't you think they would have a better protection/deterrent system to get people to not fall over/jump off?

The Golden Gate Bridge has that issue. Perhaps people will be drawn to a new suicide spot and unseat San Francisco?

On a similar note: I was kind of wondering/fearing that about Cosmo.

Just look at how many people have jumped off the strat...

Also with all the balcony furniture, how long until a piece of that gets thrown over and someone gets injured or killed?

I hope this doesn't cause problems for the Cosmo.

Has anyone else pondered this?

Are there any safety measures in place? ie is the furniture bolted down?

I think that mural is absolutely bad-ass. It's strangely original for a city like Vegas.

Strat has only had about 6 or 7 people jump to their deaths since opening in 1996.

There's something basically wrong about fake bookshelves.

People go to vegas to blow money on hookers booze and gambling lol ... not to read books. One a side note OH MY GOD that lighting on city center is phenomenal this thing just keeps getting better way to go vegas.

I was down there yesterday and noticed on the north wing (pointing towards the Wynn), on the Fashionshow side, there were some with the rail, some without.

you know what - i just drove down LV BLVD - and saw that the south and east sides are untouched - but the north side has all the balconies gone - there are guys there now painting touch ups.

i bet its a hassle to clean between the window and rail and also blocks views.... the tower is a bit more bland now (on that side) but if you didnt know what was there before i dont think anyone will notice
