I see MET 2 has finally topped off & the blue/ green glass facade looks great. Love the early morning shots of Biscayne bay & the skyline when the bay is so calm, it almost looks like a mirror. Nice pics NewAtlantis.

Beautiful pics, keep them coming!!!

Thanks! When the cranes come down from Met2 and 1450 Brickell will be the time to get more pics. Then, hopefully, we will see a market rebound by that time in order for me to photograph more skyscrapers.

The architects behind Miami’s iconic Espirito Santo building are working to design an 84-story glass tower for Spain-based Banco Santander’s site on Brickell Avenue.
New York City-based Khon Pederson Fox Associates (KPF) won a contest to design the building, the company confirmed. But Banco Santander officials have wanted to keep the details of the Miami project under wraps.

975 Meter Superscraper In Miami Could Steal Dubai's Crown

20. JAN, 2010

Plans have been floated for a new superscraper in Miami that could steal the world’s tallest crown from Dubai’s Burj Khalifa.

Despite Miami’s financial woes, having a reported 100,000 plus properties in foreclosure according to the Miami Herald, Kobi Karp has submitted designs for Miapolis - a ‘city within a city’ planned for Watson Island.

The 160 storey building would be more than 183 metres higher than the Burj Khalifa if built and would house an amusement park, observatory, restaurants, 1.96 million sq ft of shops, over 1000 apartments, 1 million sq ft office space and a 792 room hotel.

The project has been around for more than a decade but it is reported that developer Guillermo Socarras has been in talks with the Federal Aviation Administration to secure approval for the height of the tower.

The project is currently looking for funding from investors.

Of course it matters who is there. Empty buildings are pretty pointless.

With 3 office towers going up there's a big fight for tennants. Last I heard Met2 is getting the Greenberg Traurig Law firm and a few others. I don't know that anybody will be big enough to get naming rights though. The back half of the building will be a JW Marriot Hotel.

Here's a couple of old articles on it. With the economy, I assume everything's in flux though.

And of course you know that's why I'm here. It doesn't matter to me what specific tenants are there, but filling those buildings so that we see more skyscraper construction in Miami is why I'm as generous with my photos as I am. I took up urban/architectural photography because I was not seeing the kinds of perspectives of the Miami skyline and its architecture that I wanted to see. Now I know it is because very few professional caliber photographers are as generous as I am. I'm actually compromising myself and doing myself and other photographers a disservice with the number of professional quality pictures I've placed on different threads and different websites, but for me it's about attracting more tourism and commerce to Miami through my photos and helping to create more jobs and more skyscraper development in an artistic way. Of course it matters that somebody is occupying a building, but who specifically is what I don't care about. More skyscraper development here in Miami is something I do care about.

Thank you! The last photo that you see above was just approved by Shutterstock for a total of 128 in my gallery there so far. It is precisely the perspective for which I chartered the seaplane to capture. I specifically asked the pilot if he could take me around the north side of Sunny Isles Beach so that I could attempt to get all three of Miami-Dade county's major skylines in one shot. This was the best I could do because I had too much zoom, but I'm quite happy with what I was able to capture. This aerial from above Virginia Key was also approved by Shutterstock.

Well, Thanks for the photos! Haha, sorry, I really do appreciate them, but after years of viewing them I guess I have taken them for granted. :( How do you even have the time to take that many photos?

And maybe I am alone, but I want to go into real estate and so I have been tracking what firms are moving into what kind of office space and rents, cap rates, etc. So to me the mix of tenants, what floors they are going on, and how much they are paying (and who the investors are) is interesting to me.

On my regular job, I work graveyard, so I have a lot of free time during the afternoon after I wake up. That really is how I'm able do it. Ah, so you want to go into real estate for the office market. Hopefully, by the time you are ready, there will be lots for you to do. We are in a slump right now for sure, but I'm doing my best to keep interest alive through the duration and beyond. The idea is to attact more commerce to the city, whatever firms they may be, by putting as many desirable images as I can out there. I even sent pictures of 1450 Brickell to Prudential because I think it makes a good corporate symbol for them. Never heard back from the them, but the idea is to put Miami out there as the place to be in the 21st century.

This is part of what is planned, in case you missed it. An 840 feet tall building is now planned to go next to the Four Seasons, and BFC II is planned at 903 feet tall on the north end of the Brickell Financial District in addition to these two projects. They are still saying they are going to build Met3 at some point. The construction company for Met2 said work was scheduled to start on at least the foundation and parking garage for Met3 as soon as Met2 is completed.

Miami World Center is the first encouraging, urban district plans we've seen for downtown Miami. This type of development is exactly what is needed to encourage pedestrianization; mixed use, mid and high rise structures that mesh seamlessly together with plazas and street level activity.

I hope it does come to be, though it's looking a bit discouraging right now.

pj3000
Mar 30, 2010, 3:21 PM
I'd love to see this happen. Miami needs a real urban center like this in its downtown core in order to become a legitimate world-class city. Watching Miami's urban transformation and seeing these plans for a massive development project in this long-neglected area are exciting. One thing though... Biscayne Blvd. needs to be tamed... don't let it turn into another Lakeshore Dr. like Chicago has separating the downtown from the waterfront. This is very important as downtown Miami development moves forward.
