Hoorn was major harbour town during the ‘golden age’ (1584-1702 ) and an important home base for the Dutch East India Company (VOC) Today the municipaly includes the following cities: Blokker, Hoorn, Zwaag. Since 1966 the population has increased from 17.000 to almost 68.000 inhabitants now.
