Leimen is an industrial town about 7 km (5 miles) south of Heidelberg. It was created from the former villages of Leimen, Gauangelloch and Sankt Ilgen, sometime in the 1970's. On April 1, 1992, the town was granted Große Kreisstadt (District Town) status making it seperate from the Rhein-Neckar-Kreis.
