Madinah

Traditionally translated as Medina. The name means "city." It is a shortening of Madinah Al-Nabi, or "city of the prophet", a reference to Prophet Mohammad who moved to Madinah from Makkah.

The first Islamic caliphate made Madinah its capital in the 7th century.
