Frankfurt (Oder) is a city located on the Oder River at the German-Polish border directly opposite the town of Slubice, which was actually part of the city until 1945. It's classified by the Germany government as a kreisfreie Stadt (urban district). Frankfurt (Oder) economy is based primarily on higher education.
