Description • Puente Nicolás Avellaneda is the only bridge in the world, which is designed to work as lift bridge and as transporter bridge. It was built as replacement of the nearby transporter bridge Puente Transbordador Nicolás Avellaneda ( http://skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=85394 ), which remained however in work after completion of Puente Nicolás Avellaneda and worked together with Puente Nicolás Avellaneda as transporter bridge especially for horse-powered vehicles, for which the driveway over Puente Nicolás Avellaneda was too long. In 1960 transporter bridge service was together with that of Puente Transbordador Nicolás Avellaneda cancelled, however it remained occassionally in service, when road maintenance took place.
