Description
The libary is named for local businessman and book collector Harry L. Dalton. His generosity, and that of his wife Mary, led to the establishment of the university’s Special Collections program and to the construction of the Mary and Harry L. Dalton Rare Book and Manuscript Room on the 10th floor of the tower. Art and books from the Daltons’ personal collection are now part of the university’s Special Collections. Included is a rare first edition of Walt Whitman’s "Leaves of Grass."

Expanded and re-clad(the tower portion)in 1999, the library complex includes 285,400 square feet of floor space, 250 work stations, 1,800 seats, over 1 million volumes and over 14,000 journal subscriptions (including electronic subscriptions).
