Description
• This was the first modern, western-style office building built in Japan.

• The great Kanto earthquake, which occurred in the same year the building was completed, caused cracks in the facade. The building was later reclad and some small architectural changes were made.

• Due to deteriorating resistance to earthquakes, it was eventually decided to demolish the building and replace it with the current Marunouchi Building, the base of which evokes the shape of the original building.
