Description Architect: Wheelwright and Haven
Investor: Sprague Electric Railway
Developer: West End Hotel and Land Company
Built as the largest resort hotel in the South. This building was the centerpiece of what was planned as a major resort and upscale neighborhood called West End by the Sprague Electric Railway Company and the West End Hotel and Land Company. A 12-piece orchestra played twice a day in the lobby. Vistors had both open and closed car streetcar access to the hotel, as well as express carriage service. The average cost of a room in 1892 was $3 a day. This was one of several planned resort hotels for the West End Development, but was the only one built.
