Originally designed for orphanage house, begins to function in 1810 with the name "La casa de la Misericordia", when the Independence war began was occupied by the Spanish army & Independentist army, in 1829 was recover their original function & was finished in 1845, in 1937 José Clemente Orozco paints their great muralist works, in 1983 was created the Instituto Cultural Cabañas to use this building as a Cultural Center, 1997 was declared by the UNESCO as "World Heritage Site", in 1998 begin functions as a cultural center
