• The original marble cladding of Aon Centre bowed under the temperature swings experienced in the Chicago climate. The cladding was 32mm (1.25") thick Itallian Carrera Marble (similar to what Michaelangelo used), but 20 years after original construction it had severly deteriorated. The marble was replaced with 51mm (2") thick Mt. Airy Granite at a cost of $80M between 1990 and 1992 (43,000 individual 1.27m x 1.14m [50" x 45"] panels). The original construction cost in 1973 was a mere $120M
• The building is 59.1 meters wide (194 feet), with 4.6 meter indents (15 feet).
• There are plans to make this skyscraper a tourist attraction by adding observatory, double decked glass elevators and rooftop thrill ride to the building.
