Description The Oneida Community was an experimental religious commune founded in 1842. Also known as the Bible Communists, these people shared resources and practiced complex marriage, where everyone in the community was married to each other.
Pressure from the external world and internal differences led to the end of many of the communal activities in 1881 and the transformation of the organization into a corporation, with the former members being the new stockholders.
