• Constructed of the former site of the Hacienda Hotel which operated from 1956 to 1996. The hotel's implosion was televised on New Year's Eve 1996 to a crowd of 300,000.
• Circus Circus Entertainment's plans for the Hacienda site first called for a new resort referred to as "Milennium" and during construction under "Project Paradise". The resort was eventually named after the city of Mandalay, Myanmar.
• The resort features a Shark Reef attraction, covering over 90,000 square feet and holding over 1.5 million gallons of water and 100 species of animals.
