Description Facts
- The 23 karat gold-leafed dome is the largest state captiol dome in the country. It is five feet higher than the dome of the United States Capitol.
- Limestone pillars support Roman Corinthian porticos at the north and south entrances. Brass and copper doors beneath each portico are decorated with elm, hickory, beech and maple leaves representing West Virginia's native hardwood trees.
- The West Virginia State Capitol is constructed of a steel frame faced with buff limestone and marble in a Beaux-Arts, Italian Renaissance style.
