The nation's first smart building; this was the first completely computer controlled office building. This skyscraper was also designed to be responsive to the differences in the sun's radiation and looks different from every angle it's viewed. The north facade is made of glass. The windows in the southern facade are angled to keep the sun out. Windows in the east and west facades, which are exposed to harsh early and late day sun, are reduced in size and number.
Don Flow will renovate the building for his corporate headquarters and consolidate all of his company's office workers, from two states, in this one location. The building will also have a 35,000 square foot incubator for businesses started by area college students, to be called Winston Starts. The ground floor will have retail/restaurants. Flow would like for this skyscraper to become a tech commons for downtown Winston-Salem. Construction will begin in Spring 2017 and it will be completed in September 2017.
